It's all pretty nostalgic really... - By: Chris C, 29 Nov 2007
I loved the Garfield cartoons as a kid. To find out they were finallly doing a live action movie was quite exciting, although unfortunately like school uniform, you grow out of it as you get older.
Having said that its very interesting to watch if you're familiar with the cartoon, but if you hated that, then the films will not turn your opinion.
The first movie is just a basic cartoon theme brought to life, the second movie expands a little further out with more character voices. I'd certainly prefer the second one with voices from the likes of Bob Hoskins, Jane Horrocks, Vinnie Jones & Tim Curry & of course the always funny Billy Connolly as the jealous Lord.
But the tragic thing is, there's nothing at alll magical about either of them, certainly Bill Murray's voice was made to play Garfield, but reallly that's about it.
I think the problem is the fact its ten years too late, the whole animation thing has been going on since Toy Story & the voice overs for animals were already done for Dr. Dolittle.
