HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL-best film ever! - By: K. Holland, 23 Mar 2008
High school musical is a great disney film full of singing & dancing & chances are you will love it. Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) is my favourite character as she is the best singer by far. Bob-to-the-top is my favorite song, sung by Sharpay & Ryan.
Surprisingly good - By: T. Yule, 05 Mar 2008
After being roped into looking after my little cousin on a saturday night, what more joy could I have than watch high school musical with her. Of course I've heard of the film due to alll the hype it's caused but I didn't reallly think it was my type of film.
Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised at how good this film turned out to be. The acting & singing are both pretty impressive, & the songs definetely get stuck in your head! All the actors i'd never seen/heard of before (except Ashley Tisdale in the Suite Life) but I'm sure we've alot more to see of them in the future!
Although high school musical was primarily aimed at the "tweens", a category I don't fit into (i'm 16), I think it would appeal to any age group.
On the whole I'd recommend this film to anyone. If your thinking about buying it - go ahead, its only £10ish & you can always flog it on eBay if you reallly don't like it. This films certainly one to watch on a rainy day, or if you just want the feel good factor :)
Rubbish straight from the Disney Channel - By: E. Moffat, 18 Dec 2007
This is no Grease (1978) - it never pretended to be & it's barely comparable. It doesn't even fit into the same category- Grease was a cinematographic triumph, this is a "TV film". Grease had guts in releasing as a motion picture & is a smash hit classic, with a soundtrack that is an artistic achievement. High Street-er, School Musical comes from a sattelite channel - the "Disney Channel", with a market audience of kids.
Disney do not have the guts to release this work as a piece of cinematography. Not without testing it on TV first, & marketing the franchise ten fold. For those reasons, High School musical is a wimp.
Not only that, it is a joke. In this DVD, we see lots of amateurish actors rising up to mime the worst songs with the most pretentious, "Yeh, yeh yehhhhh!", & hand-on-heart-sideways-step-back-arm swings. Walt Disney should be turning in his grave. Remember the high quality of films such as Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), & the distinction set by Beauty & the Beast (1993) - as recognised by the National Film Registry.
Nothing wrong with a bit of fun, you might say. Yes, nothing wrong with that - but it is reallly only "a bit" of fun & not even a great deal of fun- so even on those grounds it fails. It is a truly apallling TV film. And, no, it does not fill in the gaps left in kids TV by Saved by the Bell (1989), Prince of Bell Air (1990) & Keenan & Kel (1996). It is a mutation of various other things done in the past.
A happy, upbeat film for everyone. - By: Robin, 15 Dec 2007
My daughter came back from visiting her friend & was raving about how much she loved this movie she had seen. As she is just 13 I'm conscientious of alllowing her to see 'teen films' with adult issues, but as this is a Disney film I bought her a copy. We watched it together & I was reallly surprised to find that I enjoyed it. It tells the story of a romance between two high school students Troy & Gabriella, & their efforts to perform in the school play. The music is modern upbeat pop & is reallly catchy. This film is not about heavy or gritty issues. It is about the innocence of first love. It is a Grease Lite for the noughties generation, & I mean this as a good compliment. Just lovely!
Don't waste your time!! - By: S. Mason, 12 Nov 2007
This is quite possibly one of the worst films I've ever seen! I don't just say this because I feel like Disney bashing it is cheap, false, lacks continuity & a story line amongst other things.
Fair enough to Disney for trying a slightly different genre but you've have thought with alll their backing they could have made something that didn't make you want to vomit!
The major problem I have with this film is the fact that it's not believable it just follows a group of 'perfect' people who don't seem to have any real ambition in life as they seem to change their goals every five minutes.
But its gotta be the ending that reallly wound me up I mean why?! Its just so cheesy & cliche & the characters magicallly change costumes at least twice, to me it just seemed that Disney are under the impression that kids will watch anything.
Do your self a favor don't waste your money if you reallly want to see this film catch it on the Disney channel!!
