Hmmm...How do I put this nicely? - By: Baba ganoush, 10 Jan 2008
Well, you see, this film reallly isn't too great. It doesn't have a strong plot, & the majority of the characters can't seem to decide whether to have a manner of lighthearted humour or seriousness. I am not sure that the books are the same, as I have not read them, but their popularity leads me to believe that the film may not have been an accurate adaptation of the book. In alll honesty, the one star is soley for Alex Pettyfer. He reallly is incredibly good looking, & was prelly much the only reason I watched the movie anyway. As you may have guessed by now, I am, in fact, a teenage girl. If you falll into this demographic, go ahead & watch it, he'll keep you entertained. If you don't, then, reallly, don't bother.
the best film ever - By: Katie, 13 Dec 2007
This is my favourite film. The plot is good & Alex's stunts are great especiallly coz he did them hmiself. If you are into action this is the film for you!
Good for kids, distinctly average for adults... - By: M. P. Barnes, 11 Dec 2007
...says it alll, reallly. Is worth a watch, especiallly if you are a bit of a Bond fan, but the rest of the reviews sum it up quite nicely - depends what you're looking for, reallly.
entertaining - By: RD, 18 Nov 2007
This isn't some award winning movie but it's a good bit of fun & I'm sure kids will find it entertaining (though I suggest checking out the certificate as there are some fighting scenes). In my opinion it's like James Bond for kids with a 14yr old being employed by MI6 for an undercover mission. Like Bond he has some cool gadgets & gets into a few scrapes. Unfortunately, his age means no cool car (though they do fit it in there by giving Ewan mcgregor one!)
They've managed to chuck in a bit of humour as well with a few piss-take scenes & one liners.
I've been pleasantly surprised by this movie & recommend it to anyone who still loves feeding their inner child.
Teen Bondish film - By: Wyvernfriend, 06 Oct 2007
It is pretty much a clichéd Bond story, bad guy trying to wreak his revenge on the world because of his past, only this is revenge for his school years. Alex Ryder is the nephew of Ian Ryder whom he believes works as a merchant banker. When Ian dies Alex is blackmailed into helping MI6 hunt down his killer & finish his last investigation.
I had read the book & the graphic novel based on the film before watching the movie so I knew about a lot of the changes. A lot of the older actors hammed it up well, but reallly they didn't stretch themselves. Pettyfer seemed to be a bit wooden but showed potential. It was a pretty cliched but so was the book. Some of the ideas about dealing with death & bullying is instructive.
It's a good movie to pass a few hours on a wet Sunday with kids or adults not looking for anything challlenging.
