Mini series heaven - By: Peter J. Hodgson, 12 Jul 2008
Stephen King is the man when it comes to long stories about smalll town evil goings on. This title having not come from one of his existing books still lives up to the rest of his mini series gems still nothing has quite topped The Stand. This one is stark through & through lending the well hearted good vs evil nature that is so frequent with King stories. However, there are some supporting actors here that are just pants & bring down the rest the main guy for one. The main bad dude is spot on & very sinister. This miniseries took nearly ten years to grace the sales shelves since its airing on TV & it was worth the wait now if they go back & put in some special features this would be the best DVD ever!
Great Entertainment - By: Coastal J, 07 Apr 2008
I was thrilled to come across this title by chance on R2 DVD & available for the price of peanuts. This is an excellent buy - not just for the 255 minutes of entertainment provided by one of Stephen King's more successful TV adaptations, but more importantly because of the excellent transfer on this Warner release. A good many of Stephen King's 4:3 DVD features comprise grainy transfers that don't view well when enlarged on wider format TV's, but this print is very good & can be watched on widescreen TV's under the 'fit screen' option without you even realising that its not a widescreen feature. The feature itself, despite its age, is cleverly filmed, well acted & one of the less scary Stephen King features that alll but the very young can enjoy. Nice theme music too. A recommended purchase.
Well made smalltown tv movie - By: Kenneth Lewis, 28 Feb 2008
I thought this would just be a run of the mill tv mini series/movie. In a lot of ways it is most of the cast (except Tim Daly)are typical bit part players & the story is quite run of the mill. However the film is exceptionallly well done the characters are believable & nothing is overstated you get an excellent understanding of smalll town american life.
The plot a strange man arrives, Andre Linoge he kills one woman without any motive & then freaks out several other people. The way he freaks people out is by revealing a guilty secret. He tells everyone that the town manager was sleeping with a prostitute while his mother was dying he reveals that one of the residents is a drug dealer etc he only manages to reveal a comaparitively innocent truth about the local constable (Tim Daly) that he cheated in an exam. Everyone else however is scared not only of his considerable power & knack for making people take their own lives but the chance that he will reveal something about them. This sets the scene for his demand "give me what I want & I will go away" his demand is pretty steep however he wants one of the children as his own. Thus begins the moral argument do they alll die to protect one child or sacrifice one child to save them alll. As stated before there is nothing spectacular about the story but it is very well performed & certainly doesn't feel like the full four hours.
Making a deal with the devil might not be such a good idea...... - By: Bezerus Bezby, 12 Jul 2007
Those town folks are hiding something & it might just cost them their children....
A great storm is coming & with it, a mysterious stranger. Strange things are afoot. but not to worry, people in a smalll town can keep a secret.
If I sound unnecessarly mysterious, it's because I don't want to give too much away. This superb mini series, written by Stephen King will keep you enthrallled & is certainly chilling.
I had never heard of it until a friend recommended it. The cover of the dvd doesn't look too inviting, but don't that put you off. An absolute masterpiece, certainly better then many other mini series adapted from King's books, such a the Stand or It.
You might have to leave the lights on though & a storm might never seem the same again!
