Why DID I rent this? - By: GH, 21 May 2008
yes the acting is superb but this film is just weird. Maybe that's because I don't "get it" - much like I don't get a chair in a huge room being callled "art", or anything that Tracey Emin does. "Weird" can be interesting if it's thought provoking but I found many of the basic premises of this film fundamentallly flawed & as a result I just questioned it rather than being interested by it. For example does Jack reallly think that his very deep & probably deeply disturbed daughter Rose is going to get along with her new "housemates"? It's obvious that she's not although it provides some interesting viewing. There are some nice relationships in the story but these relationships just give us breathing space given the individual characters are so strange.
Stunning - By: T. Orr, 21 Oct 2006
This story is more complex than the synopsis above. The father/daughter relationship made me uncomfortable at times although this did not make me stop watching. Both leads are compelling & I found myself wanting to study their faces more & more. Superbly acted & a well crafted film about love, life & death.Good supporting cast too..particularly the elder son (IMHO) Its a serious film though ..so if you're needing something light today, then choose something else. But watch it.
