a 3.5 out of 5 movie - By: sean paul mccann, 23 Mar 2007
released in 1986,ferris buellers day off has gained solid praise & its importance in the era of the 1980s cinema world is pretty high but i think in some ways the film is overrated.
For the first quarter if not a little further i found matthew brodericks character ferris a little too smarmey,in fact i wanted to slap his face off, however to be fair as the film progressed i started to take to him & the way he acts on the band float was great, one minor detail as well is that the film isnt a galaxy of laughs, sure i found myself smiling but this didnt blow my eyes out with chuckles.
The film follows high school senior ferris who fakes illness to get off school to head to the big city with two friends to have fun,the film is directed by john hughes & uses childish pranks that he would later mastr with home alone, the headmaster searching for ferris is a little slapstick but not unlike marv & harry in home alone.
For the most part the film is stylish & some of ferris' stunts to avoid getting caught are cool ideas & the film is hardly a chore to watch, but alll in alll it isnt quite up there with the classic 80s films but it shouldnt hide in the corner alll sheepish & bashful either.
Sloane dear, come to Daddy - By: B. Chandler, 11 Dec 2006
I am afraid I can not go into too much detail as the movie counts on surprise & anticipation.

Three high school comrades Ferris Bueller (Mattew Brodrick), Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck), & Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara) take the day off. They have several adventures which take them to many fun locations among which are a parade, restaurant, & just skirt being detected. Even though this is a teenage fantasy everyone can enjoy it.

Ben Stein gives the performance of his life as the enthusiastic economics teacher. "Anybody...anybody?"

Meanwhile the principal Ed Rooney (Jeffrey Jones), which knows of Ferris' devious ways, investigates & is foiled at every turn.

Ferris' jealous sister Jeanie (Jennifer Grey) has a few adventures of her own which include meeting a boy in the police station (Charlie Sheen.) She eventuallly comes to appreciate Ferris' ways.

Naive parents Katie (Cindy Pickett) & Tom (Lyman Ward) move blissfully through the movie only wanting what is best for their under the weather son.

For those musicallly inclined the movie is packed with great tunes.
