I expect diehard Midler fans will enjoy this remake of the 1962 version,however try as she might she can't make this work, in fact she goes way over the top on occasions, instead of Momma Rose we get Bath House Bette. Gypsy should never have been put into the hands of Disney, It's sanitised, lacks pace & just doesnt have the raucous energy required for the world of vaudeville & burlesque. Cynthia Gibb is hopelessly miscast as Gypsy Rose Lee , Dainty June & her Farmboys are far to old, Tulsa will never see forty again & the three strippers Tessie, Mazeppa & Electra considering that they are supposed to be third rate & past their sell by dates are dressed in the most elaborated & highly expensive Bob Mackie creations. It's wrong this movie, alll wrong watch the Russell/Wood version instead. It's far superior in every way.
