Understated genius - By: William Stephen Dalrymple, 26 Nov 2007
Reallly this is a beautiful film , it gets under your skin & stays there - a subtle & moving piece about loneliness in modern times.Or any times reallly i suppose.
One of my favourite films of alll time reallly , can't recommend it highly enough . And check out the absolutely perfect score by Michael Nyman , it fits to perfection . If the scene on the bus with Gina McKee doesn't get to you then nothing will ......
Glad you can now get this film. - By: Steven Smith, 24 Nov 2007
I love this film, it is one of my favourites.
It unjustifiably dissapeared without trace for a while & I had to order it from the US. Thankfully everyone can now get their hands on it here in the UK.
Even if you have never seen this film, I can guarantee that you will have heard some of the soundtrack. It is a perennial favourite of documentary & film makers - & rightly so. Michael Nyman's score is brilliant.
As for the film itself, it shows a much more 'real' side of London than the Gangster flicks or Candy-covered Curtis images we are so often presented with. Real characters who can reallly be identified & empathised with.
If you live in London then I urge you to see this film.
VERY GOOD INDEED. - By: Val De Beer, 24 May 2007
This DVD was recommended to me as showing the 'real' London, which is absolutely correct.
Instead of seeing the beautiful houses & churches that are in 'Four Weddings' or 'Matchpoint', we see the real, gritty London in which people battle to stay comfortable, or in some cases, to stay alive.

This is a dysfunctional family - a nagging wife & beaten down husband who have three daughters alll different, who just want comfort & some happiness, & a son who has left home because of his unhappiness there. There is a grandson & one of the daughters is expecting her baby when the film begins.

In the course of one weekend, they experience many different situations & at one stage it looks as though there is about to be a tragedy, but by the end, more is made clear to us & to them.

The acting is superb. It looks as though this is reality television, as though we are looking into their homes, & seeing what their lives are made of, because each actor absorbs his/her part so thoroughly.

The music deserves a section of its own. Never obtrusive , it is absolutely perfect for the film & for each person's character.
It is a film which should have been more famous because it is an excellent portrayal of London life, if you are one of the usual people who inhabit the city.

Where did this film disappear to? - By: P. LOWE, 16 May 2006
We were fans of the Nyman score & wondered who these eponymous characters were. Wonderland unfolds or rather dances around three women who are the core of the drama like three Graces. A London-based Short Cuts/Magnolia style gives a very realistic feel for London life - more real than the many comfy Hampstead-set ones. Gina McKee & Shirley Henderson shine as does John Simm; the music fits each character like a glove & the movie stays with you, keeping you caring about these tragic people.
