In the summer of 1976 one late evening my dad & I came home from the pub, dad had recently retired from the Nottinghamshire ambulance service & was finding life a little trying, I looked in the radio times & told him
"hey dad James Cagney film "White heat" is just starting" "Don't care for Cagney" dad replied, however he agreed for
me & watched, after the film "what did you reckon?" I asked "didn't know he could act like that" dad became a Cagney fan. Now at 74yrs old & dad & Cagney long gone waiting for the resurrection on earth, I recommend this box set. ps did you know Cagney was earmarked for Robin Hood? but it was given to Errol Flynn after Jimmy blew his top

James Cagney Collection - By: Pedro Freire, 25 Aug 2009 This is a great DVD collection. A must to alll Cagney fans.
In this three epic films we see James at his best.
The collection comes in a box, well designed.
They worked well in DVD player & even in PSX 2 here in Portugal.
For me the best one is "Roaring 20's".
But alll are good !

Taylor, 22 Jun 2009 James Cagney stars as the ultimate tough guy in these DVDs, each being an absolute classic film in its own right, & presented here as a superb boxed collection for total enjoyment. If you are a James Cagney fan, like classic films, or just feel nostalgic, this is a must have set. The themes may be set in a bygone era, but are more realistic historicallly compared to modern stuff, & the cast, acting, storylines, direction & production are as good as you can get.

White Heat is one of my alll time favourite movies, & I'd have been willing to buy the set for it alone. I didn't know any of the others in this set before, & I'm stunned at the sheer brilliance of Cagney's acting & the high quality of the movies. White Heat is still my favourite, but it's closely followed by Angels With Dirty Faces (chilling death house scene) & The Public Enemy, the ending of which has been leaving me breathless. Once I got used to the newsreels I loved The Roaring Twenties, too. I'm totallly blown away by Cagney's acting skills.
The set itself is a real bargain. Each movie comes with commentary, short documentary (including parts of an interview with Scorsese) & "Warner Night at the Movies" (newsreel, short, cartoon & trailer, alll from the year of release of the respective feature). I had tremendous fun feeling like a movie goer from the thirties & forties. I can't recommend this set highly enough!

Cagney is without doubt a star.. incredible charisma
All four films are fantastic.. to pick a favourite i'd say 'Roaring Twenties' just because of the strange mix of documentary & story
B&W with some extras.. well worth it.
