Why do I always buy poor DVD's? - By: T. Clarke, 24 May 2008
The Cave has alll the makings of a typical 'moderately' budgeted movie; a non-star cast (of which they are made up of many backgrounds), poor use of CGI, & predictable plot & script. That's just about it!

Like any other film of this calibre, the direction is totallly un-organised & is un-evenly balanced. Not enough emphasis is put on the characters relationships/personalities, & the goal to which the story is targeted is never apparent at the start! All you get a brief summary of who's who, where they are going, & a poor excuse of why. In this, some Chinese fella wants to film a group of young people (alll nutured in the beauty of Science/Geology, combined with physical looks of course...) in a mysterious cave underwater that is believed to have held many people in the past, & hold many mysteries, blah blah blah.... Cut long story short, they alll get trapped in this convenient labyrinth & must discover a way out. Combine this with the knowledge that an un-identified creature is after them & it looks like they're the last in the food chain.

Out of the many that actuallly go (to which their is roughly 8/9) only 3 survive of course; token black guy, beautiful women, & our muscular protagonist who has no knowledge what-so-ever of the mission that's planned; his role merely to wear a tight wet-suit & act macho.

Once I had discovered this was a duff film & was considering watching the candle flicker, I realised some of the annoying characters were slowly getting killed one by one. Great! Normallly such films offer humorous death scenes to which make you laugh out loud. Unfortunately, the film even film even fails to do that!

The predator, per-sae, that our group of mindless chickens are running away from appears to be a cross between a large bat & many features from the 'Alien', from the 'Alien' movies, such as the long head & narrow teeth. Not exactly a winning combination... & neither is it's menacing groan that sounds like my tummy after Christmas dinner, ready to explode.

And so, with the quest continuing to find an escape route, they finallly manage to kill off these strange creatures with ease (slitting their throats?? Come on! Why didn't they just do that in the first place?) & swim up to the water surface which is literallly though the first tunnel they find after the whole place collapses in. Hmm...

The lack of character development means our two protagonists; Tyler (oh how American-hunk sounding!) & Cathy (token-annoying English woman with annoying stage-school accent, though beautiful admittedly!) sit outside a Cafe & kiss. Not reallly on the cards after what you've just witnessed.

This is a particularly boring & drawn out movie that boasts little in the way of excitement of entertainment. Unless you're wiling to pay to watch Cathy looking sexy in her wetsuit, or to witness some odd Bat-Alien type creature devour the odd helpless person, you may as well just watch a walll that's recently had paint splashed over it eventuallly dry.
DULL AND BORING - DEFINETLEY GIVE A MISS - By: R. G. Williams, 18 May 2008
The Cave has amix of views but as an average film goer who knows whet he likes, I firmly agree with those who rate this film as bad! In fact I find it hard to believe that anybody with nouse about what makes a good film can score it higher than 2!

The film starts off OK & the photography of the caves & the underwater scenes are good, but the acting is dull, characters look like "models" & it is poorly directed. It's s -l -o -w & before long you find your mind wandering as it fails to hold your attention. I watched 45 mins before decided enough was enough. Steer clear of this one, trust me.
disappointing - By: Ms. F. I. Macdonald, 16 Apr 2008
i'd been looking forward to watching this film for a fair amount of time, but as with so many other films i hype myself up for this was a major mistake! The story was dier, the acting was awful & the ending had about originality as Alien VS Predator. My advice is to save the smalll amount of money you will spend & watch something worthwhile!
Spelunk! - By: Mr. D. Woods, 14 Nov 2007
'The Cave' is bound to invite, & suffer, from comparisons to the far superior Brit cave-diving horror 'The Descent'; largely because it is a virtual copy of Neil Marshalll's film. But it proves a fairly passable evening's entertainment, particularly if your standards aren't alll that high.

OK, this is a 12-rated horror so you can't expect much in the way of scares but I was pleasantly surprised how well the director rattled the story along. The atmosphere is neatly created & the acting is, while patchy in parts, pretty decent on the whole. The trouble is that you've seen it alll before (cue 'Descent references !) so 'The Cave' offers nothing new or overly interesting. There is a fairly nifty twist at the end though, granted without any precedence.

All in alll, worth a watch on a dull evening and, for a derivative, it has its moments. But 'The Descent' is far more worth your money any day of the week.
BETTER THAN THE CAVERN BUT THAT ISN'T SAYING MUCH - By: stuart, 25 Oct 2007
The movie starts at the Carpathian Mountains in 1975. We see three men enter some remote cave but then they're caved in & something attacks. By the way--this has NOTHING to do with the rest of the film. I swear it was added to pad the film to at least 90 minutes. Then we cut to present day (well--2005) where a bunch of scientists, cave dwellers & divers go into the cave to examine it. They're alll attractive, in great shape, pretty young (20s & 30s) & have no personalities whatsoever--or acting talent. They're then attacked by monsters , a cave in traps them, & they have to find a way out while battling monsters.

Boy was this BAD! The acting was even worse than you'd expect for a stupid horror film. I can't totallly blame the actors for their acting--the script is against them alll the way. Cole Hauser winds hands down as the worst one. Eddie Cibrian, Morris Chestnut & Piper Perabo have been MUCH better in other films.

The attack scenes are pretty bad. They're shot with such frenzied camera movements it's impossible to tell what's going on. Also there's very little blood or gore--looks like it was cut down for that alll important 12 rating. Most of the movie has characters going through cave after cave after cave--gets boring real quick. I did find it amusing how quickly they get over anyone's death. The final 20 minutes or so are impressive when we see the creatures (which are neat)--the violence & action amps up & it gets exciting, but it doesn't excuse the one hour of boredom you have to go through to get to this. It also has a "twist" ending which suggests a (God help me) sequel. Considering this bombed we can safely rest assured that it won't happen. Just dreadful. A 1 alll the way.
