How it's done - By: Sir Squidshaker, 24 Mar 2008
Quite simply how anime should be done but so often isn't. No over-emotional garbage, no cheap shortcuts, no lazy "It'll do" animation. Felt quite deflated when I'd seen every episode. Anyone interested in animation should check out this along with Shinichiro's other creation; Samurai Champloo. Oh and, don't be lazy, watch the subtitles version.
Pure Class - By: Matt, 25 Nov 2007
I've found that the quality of anime varies greatly, but ths one sits firmly at the top of the pile. There's none of the naive emotional content found in so many of it's counterparts, & the music, writing & animation are alll brilliant. The voiceovers & sound editing are also fantastic, & unlike most anime whose characters seem to get wrapped up in their own techno speak, this is so well written that you never wonder what the hell they are alll going on about. The direction is also so good, that some of the episodes alomst make you believe that you are watching a sci-fi film noir. A true classic of the genre, & if your a fan of anime & havn't yet seen this, buy it; it will knock your socks off imo. For anyone else i'd say give it a try; some of the action sequences smack of genius, & the whole series is packed full of genuinley funny moments.
Anime at its best - By: P. Rocker, 10 May 2007
What a fantastic series! The mix of action, comedy, romance, complex back-stories & so forth is spot on, the soundtrack is fantastic, & there isn't a dull episode (even those that don't seem to advance the plot in any way are great in their own right). For me the highlight of this box is the two-part "Jupiter Jazz"- at the same time strange & very moving. Any fans of sci-fi in general should check this out right away.
Unfortunately I had to knock off a star because there are NO extras, except a few trailers from the publisher. Even if you're not that interested in your bonus features, for one of the most popular anime series this is pretty unforgivable!
Perfect Introduction To Anime.. - By: , 22 Jan 2006
Cowboy Bebop shuns so many of the stereotypes of Anime, there are no Super-Deformed faces, absurd powers or heroes fighting to save the world. Instead you have a team of bounty hunters, just looking for a next meal. It's like a laid back western, set in the future, with spaceships... (Odd concept?)
Dont expect much in terms of actual plot, its more about developing the roles & story of alll the members of the crew, in a mostly light-hearted way, though occasionallly the style will change when dealing with some more serious subjects.
For a series that is now 7 years old, or thereabouts, the artwork is still stunning, whether its spikes 'bruce lee' style fightscenes, or a dog fight in the sky the animation never fails.
This collection is 3 DVD's & half of the total Bebop, its a great deal for anyone new to anime & wanting to try it out. If you dont expect a plot, but just cool jazz muzic & amazingly cool characters, buy Cowboy Bebop.
A truly amazing series. - By: , 22 Jan 2006
What ever you thought about anime, this will change it. It has gorgeous animation & the story (even though fractured) is fullfilling. A truly amazing thing
