First anime series i have ever watched. bought it purely off the back of the movie.
Absolute quality. I dont pretend to be a review critic as i have nothing to base this on as my anime experience is zero. First few episodes were dull but the series takes off.
Dub & Sub quality? - By: Truc Nguyen, 10 Mar 2008 I have the 2 series saved into my wish list & has been considering buying them for a year now! My hesitation is due to the uncertainty of the subs & audio quality of them.
Please could any one have purchase the box set from amazon tell me if they have Japanese audio & English subtitle? I am not a big fan of dub (English actors' voice over). Having seen the negative feedback of the "black cover" at the sub's area I am more uncertain about these box sets' quality!
Amazin, awe inspiring and intelligent action. You lose some of the extras, but the loss is still outweighed by the sheer excellence that this series offers you.
The series is powerfull in plot, storyline & action. Simple!!!
The series is not related in any way to the original movie if you have already seen this, the series is set years before the events of the movie.
The story involves the actions of the Secretive Section 9, a Government Special Ops police force that monitor the land & cyber space crimes that the police cannot handle **or the crime is too entwind with the Government**. They specialize in counter terrorism **land or cyber**, hackings, fraud, espionage, murders & the odd act of corruption.
The plot revolves around the same characters of the movie, Major Kusanagi, Batou, Togusa, Chief & even the lesser characters from the movie take more of an active role in the series, Bulma, Paz, Sito & Ichikawa, you get to see the characters in a different light & learn more of their individual roles in the Secretive Section 9.
The series is slow to start but the other stories set aside from the main plot are just as entertaining & thought provoking to the main plot.
The main plot can be overwhelming & confusing if you miss information but this is no reason to remopve a star, the story line is enthrallling & worth every minute of your attention. The main focus is the actons of a super-cyber hacker who is only known to the media as "the laughing man" who attacks society & Government officails through complex actions of terrorism. Only Section 9 can track down this illusive criminal, but it will require their combined expertise & resources pushing them to the limits & their own loyalties to the Government. Be prepared for a intellectual, action packed animated series that pushes alll boundaries.
The soundtrack is awe inspiring & is even availbale on CD **on my wish list too lol**.
Simply put, the best thing manga has to offer. Buy it now, you won't be dissapointed!!!
perfection - By: Maxi-D, 08 Nov 2007 i could review this item by saying that it is an excellent buy & that it is brilliant & perfect in every way possible,but that would be an understatement.
this is sheer brilliance, the story & plot is perfect
the graphics are breathtaking going from strength to strength.
the charicters are on top from the start & surpass even the most pessimistic persons view.
the story is rather similar to the original film so you'll be disappointed if your expecting a new turn on the genre although the producers of this seres have excelled in molding & crafting these stories into singular unique stories which at the same time are connected by several story arcs
this alllows the stories progression to rapidly increase to feverishly good heights
this is an outstanding collection & should be bought immediately for the philosophical aspects alone. 5/5 insanely good ^_^
Superb Intelligent Anime - By: Ms. Rhonda M. Palmer, 06 Oct 2007 What a breath of fresh air GITS SAC truely is, with complex interweaving stories & moral dilemmas- an anime that truely grips you & makes you think. The characters are intense & intellectual & well thought out.
The animation itself is gorgeous, as well as the beautiful soundtrack by Yoko Kanno. Definately worth buying if you like using your head & fancy something a bit more dimensional than the typical anime.
