Garbage Fest - By: Alex DaLarge, 27 Oct 2007
"Festival" is unconvincing, plotless, unfunny, toothless & it's two hours too long. It's like it hasn't been fully written or properly directed.
It makes "Sex Lives Of The Potatomen" look like a Kieslowski trilogy.
Loved It - By: MRL, 17 Jul 2007
Festival is an excellent film, introducing a range of characters with depth, humour & a degree of darkness. From Joan Gerard (Daniella Nardini) as a jaded reporter, a great turn from Chris O'Dowd & a suitably shalllow Stephen Mangan as comedian Sean O'Sullivan, we see alll sides of the characters. Worth watching for the award ceremony alone.
The movie covers a lot of ground at a rapid pace & gives a valid representation of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe as it has become: more of a comedy festival for comedians craving celebrity than the wealth of artistic possibilities that it once was. This may be unpalatable for some, but this hard hitting film is both funny & unrelentingly on target. Highly recommended.
Awful, awful, awful. - By: Michael K, 08 Mar 2007
The Edinburgh Festival would seem to be an excellent theme for a film, with so much going on in a vibrant, photogenic city. This film, however proves this not to be such a good idea. It is a real mess, it has no focus, instead following several different story lines with no depth or conviction. The characters are ill-conceived & two dimensional, the stories poorly written & clichéd. All this is particularly disappointing giving this is the same writer/director (Annie Griffin) who made the brilliant TV series 'the Book Group'. The whole film has the feeling that was a rushed affair. Potential viewers would be best advised to avoid this film, instead saving the money towards a trip to Edinburgh to visit the festival for real - a far more rewarding experience.
A must for all those into fetish! - By: Charles J. Payne, 24 Oct 2006
Seeing Billy Carter's face in the f... fetish scene is worth buing the movie for. A great pic for a lazy Sunday afternoon in. Will be a hit for alll those who've lived through a few festivals themselves.
Truly great film - By: Lazy wolf eyes, 18 Jun 2006
I can't believe the amount of bad reviews on here for this film. It is not your average, obvious comedy but it has truly inspiring moments. The acting is superb, & the cast is fantastic.
It's a shame that people can't appreciate this film, I suspect most of them prefer watching 'comedy' where men dress up as women & make jokes about toilet humour.
Don't judge the film on these reviews, it reallly is brilliant, & I would definately recommend it if you are a fan of Stephen Mangan, where he portrays an absolute vile character that makes Guy Secretan look like Mother Teresa.
As for the dvd itself, its choc full of extras, alll of which are worth a look.
