1st Excellent, 2nd Ego Inspired Propaganda Mission - By: 10th, 23 Mar 2007
I was mistaken when I thought that renting the Christmas specials would cheer me up & make me laugh. the Christmas edition was marvelous, although the comedy a little strained. the New Year edition was terrible. I think Ms French's ego has tripped off the scale. I am alll too aware of the worlds problems, I watch the news. I don't need Ms French to lecture me from the safety of her Knightsbridge mansion, or wherever she callls home. She could ease World Hunger by leaving some of the pies.
as good as ever - By: , 02 Apr 2006
Those of you who have watched previous episodes about the antics in Dibley will not be disappointed. Dawn French, as usual demonstrates her outstanding ability to make your stomach ache from laughter. I particularly like Merry Christmas - a real good episode. I commend the team on their political message at the end of Happy New Year - it in no way detracts from the hilarity of the episode, & makes you think on your actions a little. alll round - brilliant!
Still brilliant - By: David Nicholl, 24 Feb 2006
The Vicar of Dibley was always gonna have a lot to live up to, especiallly 4 years after the last series. But it's still as hilarious & touching as ever. The characters have not lost any of their spark.
I have two criticisms however
- The constant gay innuendo. There were various gay jokes in it, & I'm not sure that they were entirely appropriate.
- The end of the last episode. It gets very political - in the support of Live 8. With a close up shot of each of the inhabitants. I don't reallly think The Vicar of Dibley was the place to put a political message out there, especiallly since Live 8 was 6 months before I saw it. I didn't like that - it spoiled a reallly good episode.
Overalll, excellent stuff but be prepared to be slightly disappointed by the political message.
