dreadful, quite simply horrific - By: Hambletta-Maud, 15 Feb 2008
this comedy is unfunny, let's get that straight from the onset.

a worthy vehicle for badly acting jenny-from-the-block, whose simpering grates after approximately a nanosecond.

it is not worthy of the fantastic jane fonda, who has either sold herself short or, more likely, been sold a misrepresented dud. that said, fonda is the best thing about this film.

for a supposedly funny film there is only one laugh in it, & that is when jenny-from-the-block & fonda slap each other's face. an earlier reviewer understated that "it didn't go overboard with useless jokes that no-one laughs at". wow - as if that was a virtue.

save yourself an hour-an-a-half of your life by not watching this dreary drivel. you will never get that time back again. instead, go out & watch the grass grow & your time will have been more productively spent.
You only want to watch it once! - By: Catherine, 23 Jul 2006
To be honest, this is only a film that you want to watch once! The first time I watched it, I quite enjoyed it, but after that it got a bit boring.

It is about a woman callled Charlie (played by Jennifer Lopez) who meets a guy on the beach. They start going out & then they get engaged. They are so happy together, but there is one problem: his Mum!

She is unhappy about her son getting married to Charlie, so she does everything she can to stop them getting married.
Great Movie - By: Richard, 13 May 2006
Actuallly watched this the day it arrived, & reallly pleased I did. Having seen the trailer for it on another movie, I knew it had to added to my rental list. Although single myself, I've worked with enough people to know quite a bit about Mother In Laws to put me off them.
Cannot recalll seeing Jane Fonda in a movie since Barbarella, but her comedy in this is first class especiallly the nut alllergy & her "don't leave/stay with me" supposedly girly friendship with her new daughter-in-law played by Jennifer Lopez. This was only the second film I've seen Lopez in (the other being Angel Eyes) & her move to comedy was a good one, so wouldn't hesitate to try others. Also liked the personal assistant character although my only complaint would be some of her lines were not that clear leaving the viewer to work out what she said. The appearance by Elaine Stritch was a total surprise when she went up in the cast, couldn't think what character she would play in this type of movie, but you'll have to rent it to find the connection. Overalll a reallly enjoyable film, would highly recommend.
great - By: Super_22_chick, 01 May 2006
i loved this film, it was sweet & a little funny but it didn't go overboard with useless jokes that no-one laughs at, the acting was superb & the film was overalll a hit.
I didn't expect to be impressed by it when i bought it under the reccomendation of a friend but i was pleasently suprised, it was actuallly good with J Lo in it.
The scenario is realistic, an overprotected mother doesn't want her son to marry anyone let alone a woman who skips between about 5 jobs & she will go to alll lengths to stop the marriage, even fake an anxiety attack & pay a man to pretend to be a doctor.
I loved it sooooo much, great for a girly night in.
This movie is the worst i have ever seen - By: Meg Cabot, 18 Apr 2006
This movie is the worst i have ever seen because thes best bit in it is when jane fonda thinks about pushing j lo's head in a cake. this is the one bit that is remotely funny & i can't believe i spent time
