TV drama the like you will not see again - By: Gloucestershire Echo, 17 Jun 2008
Reading of the new film due out of Brideshead this autumn, of the book Madresfield & it's influence on Waugh, & the issue over whether John Mortimer wrote this script or not, the conclusion I came to is 'who cares?'. This is one of the finest TV dramas made, & it's like we will never see again.

It's 13 hours, impeccable casting & boasts a script that is second to none. Iron's laconic narration is perfect & the whole production simply outstanding.

'My theme is...' well I don't want to spoil it. As a novel it's regarded as one of Waugh's lesser achievements, but as a TV production it's one of our finest.

Buy it. It's vintage television. A compelling & classic drama.
The Ultimate British TV-series - By: Leif Asbjørnsen, 05 Jun 2008

I saw Brideshead Revisited for the first time on TV in the early 1980s & I remember it well for its nostalgia for what we today calll old-fashioned values. After having watched alll the episodes on the DVD some 25 years later, I must say that the series still manage to hold its grip on me who have always admired British cinema & the reserve of excellent British actors like Jeremy Irons & John Gielgud. I still think the series is one of the most outstanding ever produced by a British television company. For the excellent bargain of about 17 pound you can still witness the doomed relation of Charles Ryder with the Marchmain family - a human drama set in grand locations in England & Venice in the recent past. Brilliant!

There is no better adaptation ever - By: M. Jones, 21 Apr 2008
This is the most perfect series ever - end of story. Don't bother with the rubbish on the box today...just sit back & watch it again & again...i still find gems on my fifth viewing.
Subtitled? - By: Mikko Ketola, 24 Feb 2008
I'm sure there are thousands of international customers who would be extremely happy to know whether a movie has English subtitles or not. This information reallly should become a regular item when listing DVD features. For instance, I would buy Brideshead instantly if I knew it was subtitled. Now I have to go hunting for this bit of information.
Unique series - By: U.K., 09 Feb 2008
I don't own this particular box but one of (sadly) inferior quality. And still the lousy quality of the images & sound does nothing to ruin the pleasure of watching this series again & again. It has become a form of escapism for me, the second I hear the opening tune a sense of calm comes washing over me, a sense that caries through the entire episode thanks to the music, the calm voice-over of Jeremy Irons & the more than sublime acting & beatiful settings.

The story revolves around Charles Ryder & his relation with the aristocratic Flyte family who inhabit the imposing baroque country house of Brideshead. Youngest son Sebastian is an excentric, a delicate soul, & gets on very well with Charles. It is never actuallly mentioned but we are lead to believe that it is a romantic relationship. Sebastian is however determined that Charles should not get involved with his family. When Charles eventuallly does get to know the family they seem absolutely charming, but along the way we begin to see an environment that is slowly shoking the excentric Sebastian & proves to be a threat to the relationship between him & Charles. Their times of bliss are at an end.
