This is a mesmeric DVD, full of visual beauty & surprises. It presents a performance of Stravinsky's 'Le Rossignol', based on Hans Anderson's tale of the nightingale (much adapted). The music is performed by excellent artistes & is very fresh, original & beautiful - quite exotic, as befits the subject. Visuallly, the story is presented in mixed media - conventional staging & acting intermingled with computer-generated images which are usuallly appropriate & often startling. It's very difficult to describe these in words - you need to see the DVD - but they are always interesting & sometimes breathtaking. They therefore enhance the already intriguing story & wonderful music. A great deal of time, care & thought have gone into the making of this DVD, & it is a great pleasure to watch.
