Must-see; realistic; informative and terrifying - By: T. Nicholas Moroney, 25 Feb 2006
Alongside "Threads" - "Dirty War" is, in my view, the most informative film ever made concerning what could happen to planet earth & alll aboard her, unless the human ability to rationalise supercedes outdated & overactive human individual & collective survival drives. If, as often seems likely, the demise of earth occurs in the near future & after a relatively short period of human domination, the chances are the cause will be our precocious development of nuclear weapons alllied with a willingness to utilize aforementioned. This film shows what will or would be the kind of bland, deadly, tragic & suicidal trajectory we would be subject to as some of us complain while others cheer our way into oblivion. Superb films such as "Dirty War" & "Threads" provide invaluable public service, building upon the pioneering efforts of Peter Watkins' "The War Game." The realistic portrayal of the effects of nuclear weapons in these movies are far more accurate than the worthy but ultimately innaccurate & almost romanticized feel of "The Day After." Unfortunately, human beings need to wake up & smell the fear. These films are must-see viewing for politicians, concerned citizens, dictators & religous fanatics from alll around the wonderful blue & white orb we have been lucky enough (through evolutionary accident) to have been entrusted with. I hope that watching films like this will help us to pass onto our children the abilty to see the earth for the precious rescource it is; & that "Threads" & "Dirty Bomb" encourage us to attempt to inculcate in our children an awareness of what will otherwise be the inescapable consequences of human weakness if we do not invest our collective energies & determination in human hope & love, ingenuity & strength.
