sweet, stylish romantic comedy - By: K. S. Jackson, 24 May 2008
I first saw this film on sky recently & loved it! The only other Audrey Hepburn Film i'd seen was of course, Breakfast At Tiffanys, & i'd never seen Peter o'Toole in action as a young man, only as the old man i know him as today. Im a sucker for romantic comedys & this was right up my street. The storyline being, Audrey Hepburn is a heiress who lives in Paris with her father who is a master art forger, as was his father before him, & one night, home alone she hears a burglar downstairs. She investigates & finds a rather dapper Peter o'Toole attempting to steal one of her father's Van Gogh. After injuring him with her fathers pistol, she finds herself talking to him & discovering he's very charming! So charming in fact she ends up driving him home! Soon After, her father sells a "priceless" statue to a museum & its only after its taken both Audrey & father find that the museum are going to do test on the piece, which of course be discoved as a fake & the rest of his "collection" will be under suspicion. Audrey decides the best thing for them to do is to try & steal it back from the highly guarded museum & theres a certain gentleman she know's who's just right for the job....
Audrey Hepburn is cute & quirky as the heiress & Peter o'Toole is very handsome & very funny, clearly enjoying himself. There were a quite a few moments that had me laughing out loud. If your a fan of romantic comedy's, this ones for you.
Lighthearted Crime Story - By: A Customer, 21 Apr 2008
'How to Steal a Million' is a lighthearted story about the daughter of an art forger (Audrey Hepburn) who needs to steal back a million dollar statue to stop her father getting caught by the police. She asks 'society burglar' Peter O' Toole to help her - without telling him why. It's mostly a comical plot but there is a sideline of romance.

Sometimes I find Peter O' Toole quite creepy in his part (as I do Nicole Bonnet's father!) & I feel a bit grossed out when he kisses Audrey, but I know that there are plenty of people who wouldn't feel this at alll. But he is still funny & plays his part well & does a funny accent when talking to the American (forgot his name!)

Audrey Hepburn is wonderful as always. Basicallly, if you loved her in her other films you'll love her again here. She is sweet & funny & has a very cool sixties look (as does the whole film).

The plot is quite funny & especiallly original; I can't think of many films like this one. It is sweet & very sixties.

Anyway, this is a great addition to the collection of any Audrey fan - not quite a romantic comedy in the same way as 'Sabrina' or 'Roman Holiday' was, but it does have the humour & the charm of those films still intact. However if you are a new fan you may want to start with one of her better known films, like 'Roman Holiday', 'Breakfast at Tiffany's', or the musical 'Funny Face'. Though if you do want to start here, go ahead. It's great & the objections I have I doubt would be felt by many.
