Charm and romance don't date - By: C. Y. Davidson, 03 Feb 2006
This is one of those movies that was one of my favourites back when the Beeb used to screen loads of old films as part of their Saturday cinema. This is one of David Niven's most charming films. If you love a good slushy romance then look out for this one. David Niven & Teresa Wright (she goes on to play the older Elise McKenna is Somewhere in Time) are Lark & Rollo who missed out on their chance for happiness due to Rollo's spiteful sister. Young lark is adopted into the Dane family when her parents are killed in an accident & is raised with the Dane children as their father's ward. She earns the emnity of Selina Dane, by merely breathing. As Lark grows up, both Pelham the older son & Rollo the younger son falll in love with her. Jealous Selena uses lies to separate Lark & Rollo. Despite their separation, Rollo never forgets Lark & vows to never enter the family home while Selina is alive, in retribution. Years later, during WWII Lark's 'nephew' & Rollo's grandneice have the chance to put love before practicality.

This is the kind of movie that needs the accompaniment of chocolates & a roaring fire. Curl up & lose yourself in it.
Nostalgic charm - By: Jackie Veronica, 23 May 2003
Based on a Rumer Godden Novel (A Fugue in Time UK, A Breath of Fresh Air US), this charming story combines the talents of a delightful Teresa Wright & a sophisticated, war-weary David Niven in a flash-back drama of innocent love. The screenplay could be better, but the fey quality of the romantic element suited the period and, though dated, cannot fail to stir the heartstrings.
