Not quite like any other anime I've seen - By: Ada Aran, 23 Jun 2007
I decided to rent this disk & see if the series lived up to it's reputation. Well, it's different to what I expected, but still excellent. The best thing about is definatly the characters & how they develop. This is a very 'deep' series, but it also features wicked giant robots that bring some action to it. Also, I think the closing song is so cute, if not reallly anything to do with the show. I was totallly absorbed by the first few episodes, & will definatly buy the plantinum collection (personallly, I think the single volumes are far too expensive).
The only thing I can critise about it is that the aniamtion looks a little dated sometimes. But still, I highly recommend this, even if it is just the first volume.
An awesome anime series! - By: , 30 Aug 2005
If you're a fan of anime & you're planning to start collecting a series, Neon Genesis Evangelion is the one to go for! It has everything you could possibly want from an anime series & more. Great, humourous characters that grow on you as the story develops. A terrific plot that is confusing at first but not on the same level as the super complex Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex series. Brilliant mecha battles that take place on the streets of Tokyo 3, but best of alll, it's filled with loads of laughs as Shinji tries to cope with his new lifestyle & the ever crazy Misato always pulling his leg. I suggest you buy the Platinum Volume 1 first, then when you discover how good it is (like me) buy the perfect collection containing alll 26 episodes. You will save loads of money if you do it this way. I reallly can't express how good this series is, if you know what's good for you, you will be ordering NGE right now. It reallly is worth every penny!

as most anime fans, & even non anime fans may have heard of is the phenomenom that is Neon Genesis Evangelion!
even though the series is already completely available on DVD that was released 1-2 years, ago, NGE is back, better than ever.
if you have missed it before then now is your chance to get it!!!
why you ask well heres why!
The legendary series NGE has returned to DVD (not a 2nd series)
its back with>
* Digitallly Remastered
* 5.1 Engligh & Japanese Surround Sound
* New pakaging with a limited edition (1st press printing) slip cover to hold the dvd.(which in my opinion is very cool & attractive)
* 5 episodes
* 12 page Profile Booklet
* Commentary with Matt Greenfield & Mike Spencer
* Clean opening & Closing animation
* ADV previews
the series is packed with action, comedy, & dramatic scenes which has made NGE one of the best anime shows off alll time.
so dont just sit there, go order it!!
Has a depth of feeling... - By: P. White, 21 Feb 2005
I'm a recent convert to this series (having only seen this disc) but I'm hooked & will be buying the other six platinum releases (and then kicking myself for not waiting for the inevitable cheaper & better featured box set). The video & audio quality are good & the scripting is also good. Nothing like this would be attempted in the West (regrettably), well not on TV anyway. It's extremely violent in places, thought provoking & glamorous. Occasionallly it's even funny (not often though on purpose). My only complaint is that the disc seemed to end far too soon but that's just an indication that I was enjoying myself. One pleasant touch is that when the English subtitles are engaged they only translate the opening theme song every other episode. Alternately you get an English phonetic version of the Japanese sonf, presumably so it can be learnt- cute!
