weird ending spoils film - By: Mr. D. Gough, 26 Mar 2008
burt lancaster plays a mexican sheriff who accidentley kills a man while trying to save him from a rich ranchers posse.when the posse say it was the wrong man & joke about it,valdez then asks for compensation for the mans indian wife & the ranchers laugh louder.when valdez asks again they badly beat him & tie him to a cross & make him walk across the desert, valdez then recovers & goes after justice.the bad things about this film is lancasters very dodgy accent "its very hard to understand",then when you finallly start enjoying the film you get so dissapointed with the worst ending i have seen to a film "totallly bizarre".thats why it only gets 2 stars from me lancaster made much better westerns than this offering.
North Sea Memories - By: Mr D J HAMPSON, 18 Dec 2005
I first watched this film on a Norwegian drillship in 1973, before satellite TV or videos were available. We had 3 movies, a comedy with Dick Emery (passable), a biopic of Richard Strauss (unbearable!), & Valdez is Coming which is a sort of superior spaghetti western. We watched it most nights for 3 weeks & I have now bought the DVD to see if it is as good as my memories of it.

I remember the excellent photography & the evocation of hot arid landscapes, supported by excellent performances by Burt Lancaster & the Buffalo Rifle. Well worth watching for sentimental reaasons alone.
