Convincing, faithful presentation of John's Gospel - By: Gontroppo, 13 Mar 2005
Henry Cusick makes a convincing Jesus. It is a tough script to perform, as he has so much dialogue, & sometimes several chapters of the bible with only the odd word or two from the narrator, or a question from a disciple.

It is well worth taking the time to watch this DVD. We did it in 3 sessions, & it was worth taking the breaks, so that we could absorb it as best we could.

This is the best film of Jesus' life I have seen. I haven't watched many, though, & have not even seen Mel Gibson's recent film. Another Jesus film I recommend is the excellent Miracle Maker, which was created using puppets & some animation.

Side note: The costumes & settings seem authentic, but when Jesus turns the water to wine, it is poured out into what looks like a Tupperware plastic cup, & when the soldiers cast lots for Jesus' garment, they use what looks like a plastic 21st century Mattell die!

The Gospel of John is an amazing production. - By: M. Tripp, 20 Dec 2004
This film of epic proportions was beautifully written, photographed & acted. The authors attempted to stay authentic to the location, clothing & props of the time. This is a word-for-word production of John's gospel, based on the Good News Bible Translation of the American Bible Society.

This movie is the product of Canadian & British talent. Henry Ian Cusick is gives a phenomenal performance as Jesus - charismatic, warm, confident, sincere. He is by far the best dramatic Jesus on film so far. The cast truly supports his performance, & they give flavor & emotion to the story. Watching them, one believes that these disciples are truly devoted followers.

The music was composed by Jeff Danna using instruments authentic to the time & region. While the dialogue can be repetitive, it stays true to the book. It is a 3-hour movie, but I was never bored, even though I already knew the story. The suffering & crucifixtion were handled delicately & with tact, & were only a smalll part of this film. The resurrection scenes are beautifully shot.

I recommend this movie to anyone with any interest in the life of Jesus, the bible, Christianity or history.
