This isn't a good film BUT... - By: Henry Watkinson, 25 Feb 2007
Okay this is not a good film. But hell, there is no reason to be so scathing! to not find any trace of enjoyment in this you must be exceptionallly hard to please. I've already said an I'll repeat, this is not a good film BUT it is worth a veiwing, if only for the music! If you are unsure then like with anything I reveiw rent it first

Sad and dreary - By: L. Wilson, 28 Jan 2006
A few highlights brighten this pedestrian & inconsistent production. The music flowed & the theatrical sets were good. The introductory talks & short location film of the Penzance coastline fed nicely into the story. The modern Major General, old nurse & head policemen were brilliant with marvellous voices & diction. The American Pirate King sang well with good diction but in his dialogue battled with the English accent despite a valiant effort. However the chorus work was stilted with bad diction. When Gilbert & Sullivan's words can't be heard what is the point of watching? One expects a somewhat stylised performance in the mode of Gilbert & Sullivan, however this performance failed to flow. Some of the cast had stilted gestures & rather sing-song dialogue & in parts it appeared inadequately rehearsed. I eventuallly decided I was glad I had rented not bought the DVD so I wasn't stuck with it. In Act II I put it on as background music to the end & was glad to post it back.
Always a legend! - By: A. Jabore, 05 Mar 2005
This has been my childhood musical & offers everything it should do. Funny, romantic, exiting & tense. I'm so gald it's finallly come out on DVD & would recommend it to anyone.
