A few good scenes, but doesn't hold any real interest. - By: StormSworder, 29 Nov 2008
Was I watching a different film to everyone else? This tale of two brothers dealing with a gang of drug-dealing thugs has its chilling moments, & the scenery & filming is suitably moody, but as a whole it's just pretty aimless. There's endless use of the f-word, a few violent killings, but mainly it's just tedious.
Nice cover shame about the film - By: anthony peter kelly, 27 Nov 2008
This is a production of WARP films a Yorkshire based company that is funded through the UK film council - 'Dead Man's Shoes' was there first prodcution, directed by Shane Meadows, received a record eight British Independent Film Award nominations, including Best Film, Best Director & Best Achievement in Production & was also nominated for a BAFTA & won the Southbank Award for Best Film. The film has received nothing less that rave reviews across the board, & is being hailed by some as a landmark in British cinema. What utter twaddle. This is film managed to get Paddy Considine an B rate star & thus the funding to produce a low interest, low suspense, None script - Let's improvise guy's - which means let's shout over each other & swear - a lot.

So dear old Paddy's brother was killed by the village idiots & he being a paratropper idoit goes on a revenge killing spree - As hard as your grandma & about as sexy. Don't watch, don't buy, find some other drivel to waste your money on.
Dare I say it, this film isn't all that good. - By: Gisli Jokull Gislason, 17 Nov 2008
As can be seen by most other reviewers I disagree with the high ratings of this film (which incidentallly prompted me to buy it).

This is a very basic story of revenge & low lifes & while the depiction of low life drug dealers is quite good & believable - I am a police officer myself - the main story itself is just plain uninteresting. The reasons for this murderous rampage are at first very unclear (and unsatisfactory) in arty b/w flashbacks & even as the story draws to a close it is rather unfulfilling.

Not one character sparked special interest for me nor did I find the murders impressive. Just a series of dull executions. There is no suspence or thrills to be found.

I could easily have missed the movie altogether & my life would be no worse for it. Instead I have a copy of the DVD & little to thank alll the rave reviewers for. If you are looking for a classy revenge story I suggest you look up Oldboy which is a very good Korean thriller.
If you buy one Shane Meadows film make it this one - By: Pob75, 23 Sep 2008
This is excellent, my favourite Shane Meadows film by far. Well worth watching. A very British film, well acted, well scripted & well paced. It's humourous in places as well as quite sad & a bit disturbing with a little twist that you will probably see coming.
Much better than "This Is England"

British film noir at it's best, both for the cunning & aptly satisfying methodology of the acts of revenge & especiallly the portrayal of the avengers struggle with his own demons, as well as with the drug-dealer low life's. Memorable, resonant, intelligent film-making. (And screw America!)
