Texasville does not make much sense - By: F. Panin, 11 Nov 2007
I had some expectetions on this movie from Customer reviews, however they have been turned down after watching it. Put it simply, this movie does not make much sense. There is little path, nor message. I would be curious to find out if these exist in the original novel, but I think I will not bother. Actors play well, but it is like they did not play togheter, they were reharsing on their own.
The only good point for me, an European who has lived in the USA countryside for a while, is that the movie conveys a certain "good old time" feel.
Life in Texas in the 80s. - By: E. Currie, 01 Mar 2006
Although not well received by the critics, this sequel to The Last Picture Show is actuallly an excellent film.

Laced with explicit & tacit references to the old days, it rekindles that unique atmosphere meticulously created by Bogdanovich in the original. There are many contrasts, though. This film is set in summer amid stifling heat while its forerunner was icy cold, with the wild Texas wind howling away. the overalll feel of the film is similarly hot & potent, a far cry from the desolation of the original.

The characters have moved on too yet many of their traits persist. Duane uncertain, Sonny looking like a lost soul, still seeing his own last picture show in his mind & Jacy elegant yet austere. Lester is still still awkward, & is now a manic banker.

Beautifully shot this reallly is a commendable effort to continue the story, albeit decades on. The spirits of Benny & Sam the Lion live on.
