It's all very silly humour but you can't help but laugh at it - By: N. Burgess, 29 Sep 2008
Although billed as a film about a 1970s TV news team, in many ways this film is simply a load of very funny comic sketches joined together into the format of a film. The central plot is very light at best & is reallly just a vehicle for Will Ferrell's off-the-walll humour. Ferrell & the rest of the cast are alll in their element delivering a mixture of satire & slap stick, with some very offbeat but hilarious moments, the news team spontaneously breaking out into an a capella rendition of "Afternoon Delight" being particularly memorable.

Some of the comedy is at times quite childish & a few jokes do falll flat, but there are so many other laugh out loud moments that you almost don't notice the more unfunny jokes.

If you like Will Ferrell you'll definitely like this film, if you're not a Ferrell fan then this may not be your cup of tea, but as an off-the-walll comedy I'd still recommend it.
The 70's are fun! - By: Darren C. Pearce, 29 Jul 2008
With alll the bad fashion, bad hair & bad catch phrases you could ever want this film serves up every cliche associated with a classic 70's flick.

Scenes like the jazz flute playing exlpoits of Ron, the tampering of the autocue & the fight scene between rival news teams reallly are silly beyond belief.

Thoroughly recommended.
Gets slightly better as it goes along - By: D. Brusca, 03 Jul 2008
Starts off completely devoid of laughs, but builds up to be moderately entertaining. Steve Carell is noteworthy as a weatherman with an IQ of 48 who doesn't know his own name. Highlight is the multi-news team battle scene. Daft, but funny.
the legend "not" - By: florence, 03 Jun 2008

Tries very hard, very hard indeed - By: Suburbman, 27 May 2008
I guess this is a fairly early Apatow effort, & there's plenty on display here that points to his better, later work, such as Knocked Up. There is a big problem with it, though, in my opinion: it just isn't funny. Three of us - alll with varied / good senses of humour - sat through it, & there were just too many parts where they reallly tried but failed to elicit a laugh. The scene that redeems it, in my opinion, is the cologne scene, which I think is hilarious. You could watch that 5 min part, skip the rest & still get value for money from say £3, but other than that, there ain't much there to enjoy.
