A Musical Drama very well acted from Whitney Houston - By: M. C. Crawley, 09 Jun 2008
Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner) is an experienced Body Guard with a bit of history who is reluctant at first to take on the role of protecting Rachel Marron(Whitney Houston) a pop superstar who is getting death threat letters....Houston plays the difficult spoilt childish brat whilst Costner plays the cool I know what I am doing bodyguard...Whilst the film may have a lot of cliches, it certainly gels together well especiallly as the relationship develops between Costner & Houston.....No one would have denied the quality of the soundtrack at the time it was made & certainly Houston's version of "I will always love you" stands out more than most...This is a pleasant film with action, music, drama & above alll a performance by Costner very alike to the great Steve McQueen...Likewise for a singer become actress Houston performs very credibly in her first ever motion picture role....you'll be pleasantly surprised.....
You Gotta Love It!!! - By: Carly Cowell, 07 Jan 2008
This film is fantastic.
Seen it a thousand times & I'll watch it a thousand more.
No wonder it was a hit movie: love, action, drama, twists ....... I mean, if you weren't a Kevin Costner fan before, you will be after watching this. He plays the character of Frank Farmer brilliantly. Whitney Houston, I thought did well in the role. The connection between the two characters is made believable just by the eye contact given, especiallly in the close/intimate scenes. This film is a must have & must see. It is a bit long but it's worth the watch!!!!!
5 stars alll round!!
I wouldn't even go there - By: Lou Knee, 09 Sep 2007
There were two good reasons to avoid this movie when it came out, & they must still hold true today for the dvd: That terrible song & that terrible actor.
OVERBLOWN - By: stuart, 26 Aug 2007
The Bodyguard is an OK film, but nothing particularly exciting, I am usuallly a huge fan of Costner's but here he pretty much bored me, & Whitney Houston should reallly stick to singing, plus while there are a few memorable moments, like the finale at the award ceremony, I found the killer to be quite predictable. Costner & Houston's chemistry was reallly lacking, & it's also way over long for it's own good, plus I am surprised this was the huge box office hit it was. It does have a few tense moments here & there, & Costner has a couple good scenes, however the ending is too stupid, as I felt there kiss was too passionate!. None of the characters were particularly likable, & this deserves it's low rating it has, plus the dialog was quite boring in my opinion. This had the potential to be a great entertaining film, but it's ruined by over length, & dullness, & characters we can't give a damn about, so Overalll it's worth a watch i suppose but don't go out of your way to see it. **1/2 out of 5(barely)
The Acting is OK. Kevin Costner is alright here, but not at his best, I think he is a great actor, but here he is mostly dull, as is his character, he tried to come off as a Bodyguard who was tough, but I simply didn't buy it, he had a couple of good scenes, but he was mostly miscast. Whitney Houston is so so in her 1st major role, she's definitely good at the singing, but acting she's not that great at, I didn't buy her role, & her character got on my nerves. Gary Kemp plays his annoying selfish role well as Sy. Bill Cobbs is good in his role as Devaney & did what he had to do well. Tomas Arana is OK in his role, & did a decent job near the end. Michele Lamar Richards is OK as the selfish sister she did decent. Mike Starr is alright as Tony & brought some comic relief. DeVaughn Nixon is a cute kid, & did fine in his role.
SHE`S SAFE NOW - By: L. Wilson, 05 Aug 2007
Not the film if you`r looking for a deep thinking, intelligent & classic movie full of Oscar winning talent. BUT if you want entertainment, action & a few twists & turns give this a go. I reallly enjoyed the whole film, its` plot is simple (bodyguard fallls in love with spoilt client) & the acting is ok. KC fits the role well, & Whitney is a good singer which more than makes up for her jitters on debut. Well worth the money so add to your collection, you will not regret it.
