Kay Mellor is such a talented writer & i reallly loved the style in which it was written. I cant wait till the fourth series comes out on DVD.

As the episodes run along, I learned to love the characters, & I even identified with some of them. The actors are so believable that I virtuallly forgot they were actors. They seemed more like real people trying to cope with everyday life.
Even though the series treats some very serious matters, it is far from depressing. It is life affirming, very often comic, & predominantly happy. Despite the fact that in many of the episodes one can hardly restrain from crying while witnessing devastating heartbreak, it is also invigorating to see how the various characters eventuallly prevail.
In addition, the theme song is nice & catchy. Also look out for the beginning of series two, as Carol, the cynical group instructor, sums up the main events from the first series. It's a brilliant way of getting through the technicality of reminding the viewer of what happened in the previous season.
On the technical side: The set comes in quite a nice box. Picture quality & sound are excellent, & there are English subtitles for the hearing impaired. I would have liked to see some extras, but even without, the set is worth buying.
Personallly, I thought the first series was the best, but having seen that you just have to find out what happens in the next two. The characters develop, their relationships develop too, & some very interesting things happen to some of them in series two & three. Some episodes were better than others, to my taste at least, but that's only to be expected. I must add that some of the episodes were so good, that I was on the edge of my seat to see what happens next(I had only seen 2-3 episodes from the first series on TV before).
Finallly, the question to be asked about a TV series is whether it bears repeated viewing. I think the answer is yes, especiallly since most of the characters are very endearing (my personal favourites were Kelly, Lauren, Alan & Val), & since many of the episodes are very emotionallly intense.
Highly recommended.
