More Indiana Jones than Boris Karloff!!!! - By: jlh, 20 Jun 2007
Nice box set.I purchased this title for the two main features, which are both very entertaining adventures(the scorpion king is a below par cash in)The mummy films have very little in common with the old boris karloff classic of the thirties-much more in the indiana jones action adventure theme, but for todays audience this is probably a good thing.Great action, effects & scenery make the first two films in this set well worth owning(you will only watch the scorpion king once, upon purchasing, but not again)
Indiana Jones eat your heart out! - By: Mr. Matthew R. Meyrick, 29 Oct 2006
I normallly find(i dont know about you) that with film trilogy box-sets there are almost always two reallly good films included & one which at best is average. This box-set however i feel is an exception. It starts out with THE MUMMY in which Brendan Fraser, Rachael Weisz & John Hannah head off to ancient Egypt after discovering a map which they believe will lead them to the city of the dead, a grave yard for ancient pharoahs long thought to be a myth. Things start to get hairy when they accidentallly wake up a mummy who was damned & sentenced to remain undead. This part is played menacingly but never OTT by Arnold Vosloo. In THE MUMMY RETURNS, the mummy from the first film gets resurrected at the british mueseum, so he he can return to Egypt & defeat the scorpion king who Fraser & Weisz'(now married!) son has accidentallly resurrected. Back too is John Hannah as Weisz bumbling brother. Both these films are well acted well plotted & reallly fast-paced & entertaining. The third film, THE SCORPION KING is a spin-off from the last film in which THE ROCK who had a cameo in THE MUMMY RETURNS, takes centre stage as Mathias, a warrior who unites ancient Egypt to overthrow its tyrannical ruler, Memnar. This is probably the weakest of the four films but to calll it a dud would be harsh. True the acting at times is very wooden & the story at times veers dangerously close to becoming silly & farcical. But its alll good fast-paced fun & with the charisma of THE ROCK, who does a good job of carrying the film, its certainly worth seeing. Overalll a good box-set, two excellent action adventure films & one worthy, fun, hokum film. Good value for money too, the first two films have bonus discs. Stephen Sommers to direct the new Indiana Jones films, anyone?
