A Superb Television Drama - By: E. A. Redfearn, 11 Aug 2006
John Hannah plays Detective Sergeant Mckenzie whose wife Lucia has been missing for three months. Spending most of his time searching the missing persons databases, & handing out leaflets containing his wifes photo & details, he then becomes obsessed with a John Dean who lives with his wife (played by the lovely Jemma Redgrave) running a smalll boat business on the coast. Believing John Dean to be a missing man, Paul West, who had disappeared rather mysteriously almost a year previously. Paul West had disappeared after his wife & stepson had died in a fire. Thwarted by his own colleagues through lack of evidence, he becomes convinced that Dean who had previously been Paul West, is about to murder his wife for the insurance money. The plot intensifies as Mckenzie is then arrested & charged with the murder of his wife, Lucia. These events lead to a thrilling, edge of the seat climax, as the final twists & turns are revealed. Wonderfully acted & directed, anyone who enjoys a good crime/mystery story will enjoy this. Good picture & sound too, worth adding to anyones DVD collection.
Unforgettable - By: , 01 Jul 2005
Detective Sergeant Mackenzie Stone (John Hannah) is distraught - three months ago, his wife Lucia went missing after a row they had had. He spends his nights drinking & searching missing person databases for traces of her. Mack is unsuccessful, yet he does find something else. A couple of years ago, a man named Paul West disappeared, never to return. Eight months later, a man walked into a hospital, his head injured & his memory gone. Nobody knew or recognised him, so he took on the name of John Dean. Meanwhile, Dean & his wife Jenna (Jemma Redgrave) live happily together by the sea. Is it just Mack Stone's overwrought nerves that make him see odd likenesses between Dean & West? His colleagues certainly think so. While he becomes more & more convinced that Dean does not suffer from amnesia at alll, Mack himself still does not fully remember what happened on the night Lucia vanished. Someone starts sending letters accusing him of killing her, & he keeps having nightmares & halllucinations. Did West murder his wife & stepchild? Does Dean plan on killing his pregnant wife? Are West & Dean the same person? Or is DS Stone merely projecting his own guilt onto an innocent man?

"Amnesia" is an Ecosse Films production starring John Hannah (Jekyll & Hyde) & Jemma Redgrave. I first saw it on German TV where it was broadcast in two parts. Even with German synchronisation John Hannah's acting impressed me so deeply that I simply had to buy this DVD. Unfortunately, there aren't any special features, languages other than English, or even subtitles - it's the film & nothing but the film. Still, I don't regret purchasing it one bit. The actors are fantastic (especiallly John Hannah & Jemma Redgrave), & the plot is enthrallling. Oh, & those with Scottish ties will be delighted with John Hannah's accent (not to worry, those without will understand him, too).

I can only recommend watching this film, it's a definite five stars!
