It's Quite Nice, but Pales in Comparison with the Original - By: Mr. A. E. Hall, 03 Apr 2005
I loved the orignal Shrek so much that this film was a must buy. However, while it is still quite fun it simply cannot live up to its predecessor. The story seems to be a rehash of the first film with Shrek's struggle for acceptance, the switch from ogre to human & donkey's antics. The multitude of fairy-tale characters in the first film seem a bit dull in this one. The Fairy Godmother & Prince Charming are wonderful but many of the other characters don't make the grade. The film is largely saved by Antonio Banderras' Puss in Boots. Overalll it's quite nice & worth a watch, but does seem like just another sequel.
Shrek and Donkey on another whirlwind adventure! - By: Joanne K. Pilsworth, 01 Jan 2005
Absolutely brilliant. One of those movies you can watch over & over again, & still find more jokes, more 'hidden' references to other movies (including Blazing Saddles). My son loves it, my husband loves it, I love it, & I have just bought it for my sister's Christmas present.
i LOVE this film!!! - By: S. Anglim, 12 Dec 2004
This film is just brrilliant!! I'm still not sure if it is better then ther first one, but it is definetly on the same level. Donkey is as funny as ever!!! Even the music is brill!!! This is hilarious, me AND my friends watch this alll the time, & are in stitches alll the way through!!! The only thing i didnt like That much was the Cat, i dont think they established his character enough, & the reason he followed them just didnt seem believable so i didnt reallly trust him the whole way through!! But apart from this, it was brilliant!!! :D DEFINETLY Go get it!!!!
Shrek reloaded! - By: N. Williams, 27 Nov 2004
There is clearly something very wrong with me. I seem to be the only person on this planet who didn't think that Shrek 2 was 'oh my god, like, the best film ever'. Did no one else find the film to be a little stagnant when compared to the truly brilliant original.
Case for the prosecution: The movie is almost exactly the same in terms of plot with Shrek trying to get over the barriers of being an ogre in order to maintain his romance with Fiona. A lot of the jokes revolve around movie puns (spider-man & ghostbusters for example), alll well & good but something of a lack of originality. The same could also be said of the character humour, still, if it ain't broke then don't fix it.
Case for the defence: Puss-in-Boots! He's awesome & in my humble opinion, totallly carried the middle of the movie. Also, whatever else can be said about the movie, it is funny. I found myself laughing or smiling on several occaisions, & because this is a CG feature film it will please the kids on that basis alone (come on, they're guaranteed box office gold!).
Essentiallly this is just much more of the same, & for the moment its still good enough to raise a lot of laughs but with most of those coming from a new character i couldn't help but feel that this was a very unnecessary sequel which was simply leeching off the success of the first.
At the end of the day if you have kids, they'll love it, & to be honest so will you. Just don't expect the magic or the inspiration of the first alll over again. This neat little package should keep alll shrek fans happy until the sadly inevitable Shrek 3,4,5...
Shrek 2 - By: , 18 Oct 2004
This film will have children of alll ages & adults laughing.
Set just after the wedding of shrek & fiona, the happy couple are invited to vist fiona's parents.
A story of magic, romance & deception as Shrek has to save his bride from the clutches of Prince Charming follows.
With a star studded cast which includes or very own John Cleese & Jennifer Saunders make this a guaranteed hit at any time of the year, but if you buy it you will be watching it on xmas day!!
