UK buyers beware of US (region 1) set - By: Francis Urquhart, 28 Apr 2007
I see alll this "why didn't we get the set the US got?" commentary hear & wanted to let you know that us US buyers got shafted too. The episodes they sold us in the so-callled "complete" Mr. Bean were the butchered syndicated versions shown on A&E & edited (randomly) to fit more commercials in. There was no excuse whatsoever for that & sales were of course disappointing as Amazon.com reviewers let each other know about what a dismal set had been put out. I don't know if that is the case with these, but if your episodes are uncut, I will be buying them here even if they are a rip off (note that just like Yes Minister & countless others, this will one day be packaged in a single, affordable boxed set).
Mr Bean- a star! - By: Bookworm, 15 Nov 2005
This is the first DVD I have rented from Amazon & what a brilliant choice! I loved the original TV series, as it was on TV when I was at university. Mr Bean reminded me of one of my tutors! I'm sure everyone knows a Mr Bean out there! I think Rowan Atkinson plays Mr Bean so well, that he doesn't even have to speak much, it is alll in the facial expressions & the mannerisms. My two children aged 8 & 5 love the Mr Bean film so I was itching to borrow this to let them see even more of Mr Bean's antics. The only downside was that there were only 3 episodes on the DVD, can't wait to find the one when Mr Bean goes to the swimming pool!
Fantastic Show, Shame About The DVD - By: Steve Bevis [UKBritney.TV], 04 Dec 2004
Mr. Bean is one of my favourite TV shows ever, featuring Rowan Atkinson as the goofballl "alien" man (every episode he is beamed down to earth in the opening sequence!), so when I heard about DVD releases in the UK I was extremely pleased (I had a few of the old VHS tapes but wanted to upgrade to DVD!). However, this "part one" of a possible four or five part set is a complete rip-off. With an RRP of £19.99, it would be reasonable toexpect more than 3 episodes of the series, & preferably in broadcast order. However, this DVD includes the first ever episode, "Mr. Bean," along with the second episode, "The Return Of Mr. Bean," & the last broadcast live action episode, "Hair By Mr. Bean Of London." There is an additional sketch, first available on the "red" VHS released in the 90s, featuring Mr. Bean at the library, & an episode from the children's animated series.
However, if you wish to buy Mr. Bean on DVD, & can play Region 1 discs from America, you can get "The Whole Bean" in a 3-disc box set, featuring alll 14 episodes, in order, the library sketch, & other unseen sketch, "the bus stop," & two of Mr. Bean's Comic Relief sketches, as well as a 40minute documentary. This is much better value, at around £30 (also available on Amazon), & asks the question, why did the UK not receive the same treatment?
Waste of money - By: , 08 Nov 2004
I am a big Mr Bean fan & was gutted when I found out they are releasing the episodes spread over 5-6 DVD's. What a waste of time & money. I am refusing to buy these, & am sticking to my video copies. Maybe one day in the future they will release the whole DVD box set for £20, but that will be a while yet.
Funny, but poor poor poor value for money - By: Gillian Milne, 04 Nov 2004
How come the Americans get the Complete Mr.Bean in one set, but we have to get them in dribs & drabs of three episodes at a time? And this costs the same as a 6 episode comedy DVD?
They only made 13 episodes for pity's sake! Where's the problem in releasing them alll at once in a double DVD pack. This is nothing less than a rip off.
On a different note, fans of Mr.Bean should explore Jaques Tati's Mr.Hulot films. Rowan Atkinson has gone on record saying that this was where the inspiration for Bean came from, & these films (especiallly Hulot's Holiday) are very funny in there own right.
