This was an amazing performance. Petula went "home" to the Olympia in Paris for the first time in 25 years. She admitted she had "pas mal de trac" terrible stage fright, but she need not have worried. She walked out on stage & everyone stood up & cheered. Throughout this performance they did it again & again. We alll know Petula Clark the English peformer, but this is Pet in another environment. Petula with her French fans. Funnily there's little difference, she laughs & jokes her way through the performance, telling stories, & jokes (usuallly against herself) of the great people she has worked with, Fred Astaire, Charlie Chaplin, Gilbert Becaud, Pierre Delanoe & David Hadzis (the last two were there in the audience). At the end when the audience wouldn't let her go, she promised to return with new songs & told them (and how French is this) that they must be hungry & they should go eat! Way to empty a French theatre Pet!
The songs are fantastic, lots are in English, & although she speaks in French alll the way through the concert, there are subtitles. In addition to the concert, you get Petula in the dressing room, talking about her career, ironing her dress, getting ready for the performance. It just fabulous. If this dvd were twice the price it would be a bargain.
the bestest concert ever seen - By: , 12 Oct 2004 This is a must see DVD.I thought that petula was on top form & the band behing her was cooking alll night long.....especiallly the guitarist.....what a great sound.
I hope Petula Will record more of her concerts in the future.This kind of top class work will be a collectors item one day.Here's to you Petula & the best backing band in the land..WOOOOOOOOOH!!!!!!!!!!
