I've been in love with Phantom of the Opera ever since I saw the production at the theatre about four years ago, & when I heard of this film I suspected it would just be another remake which does no justice to the actual impossible love story between Christine & the Phantom, yet I was wrong. I saw this at the cinema a few days ago & can honestly say it was breathtaking, with a brilliant Christine who sung superbly & didn't let the songs down, a mysterious Phantom who's deep & rich voice emitted the spooky 'angel of music' sound perfectly & a splended portrayal of the labyrinth which alll came together to create a masterpiece. But still I stand by my views that Christine should falll in love with the Phantom & live with him rather than Raoul, who frankly gets on my nerves as he so easily 'woos' Christine. The relationship between the Phantom & Christine is so much deeper & sensual, giving the sense of proper chemistry.
Phantastic. - By: , 07 Feb 2004
Robert Englund loses the sweater & glove to stalk the streets of London in another remake of GAston Leroux's classic tale, & makes the perfect cinematic phantom for the 1980's. Englund also makes a brief appearance toward the end out of the customary make-up, sporting a rather fetching pony-tail. A refreshing change to the usual antics on Elm Street.
