'Magical, enchanting and emotive classic' - By: Antony May, 10 Feb 2007
As a kid I used to look forward to watching this & I have to say that many years later I find it as wonderful as before. Jon Pertwee was simply fantastic as Worzel & his characterisation of the loveable scarecrow evokes so many emotions within me. I laugh at his childishness & selfishness & feel so sorry for him when he is treated so badly by his unrequited love Aunt Sallly. Geoffrey Bayldon (one of my alll-time favourite actors) is superb also as The Crow Man & the quality of each episode never dips throughout. The 'Down Under' series (shot in New Zealand) are both also very good if you give them a chance. One word of warning however, do not buy this along with Amazons selected partner 'A Cup O' Tea An' A Slice O' Cake' because that entire feature is also included here so you will only be doubling up. This box set is good value too as it contains every episode ever made so if you don't want to buy it for yourself get it for your kids!

Absolutely marvellous - the programmes are as wonderful to watch today as I remember them as an infant! I bought this box set for nostalgic reasons & to introduce my husband to the world of Worzel - we are both completely hooked. The film quality is reallly not bad at alll & after a few minutes you are so caught up in the story & the quaint scenes of village life that you forget what high definition films look like! A must for any Worzel fan.
Fantastic programme, shame about the print quality. - By: Christopher Wynn, 01 Aug 2006
I've been having great fun watching this classic British series that is both well made & well acted. Shot entirely on film & on location, Worzel stands the test of time against many other programmes of the era that have dated horribly due to their reliance on videotape. As a result, Worzel has a timeless filmic quality that say, Doctor Who of the same era hasn't got. The cast are superb. Jon Pertwee's Worzel is lovable & hilarious while Una Stubbs' Aunt Sallly is vindictive yet still worthy of our affection. Geoffrey Bayldon is a friendly & wise Crowman while the tragic Charlotte Coleman grows in stature throughout the four series of the original run & was always destined for a great acting career. Almost every episode has a wonderful guest star whether it be Joan Sims, Lorraine Chase, Barbara Windsor, Mike Reid, John Le Mesurier or any of the galaxy of stars who appear. The only downer is the print quality. The picture you get on the DVD is of a film that is almost thirty years old & urgently needs to be remastered & restored. Episode one is so badly faded that it's almost black & white while some episodes suffer from a muffled audio track (although it's not bad enough to spoil your enjoyment). Print quality varies from episode to episode although the quality improves considerably the younger the episode is. If it wasn't for the print quality, this would be a sure five star review. I fear that in this day & age of HDTV & super sharp DVD images, the picture quality will put some people off but they'd be missing out on one of the best made children's programmes ever made & that can stand up to anything modern television can throw at it.
a cup of tea and a slice of wonderful - By: Michael O. Byrd, 03 Apr 2006
This is a wonderful show. The transfer is not great, but it's adeqauate. I just wanted to see Jon Pertwee, but this was a great pleaure. I admit I enjoyed series 1&2 much more than 3&4, but they are alll great.
GREAT - By: , 25 Jun 2005
well worth the money.........i purchased this set for my partner as a xmas present, as we had both remembered the prgrammes from our childhoods with fond memorys. John Pertwee & Una Stubbs were fabulous in these roles, & I cant think of another childrens programme that could even compare. We have watched these episodes over & over with alll our kids, whos ages range from 10 months to 16 years, & they think they're "heavy" (great).if you're looking for a great family classic this is definatey it.
