Timmy finally enters the digital age!- By: , 19 Jan 2005 Well they haven't done a THX approved digital transfer. There ain't no commentaries & there ain't no extras - not even an original trailer! And Greg Smith (the producer) ain't no George Lucas, as he hasn't gone back & digitallly fixed some of the goofs ie: Timmo talking without his lips moving & playing the drums without actuallly hitting them etc. But Confessions of a Pop Performer hasn't looked this good since it was released back in 1975. With a transfer aspect ratio of 1.66:1 & in anamorphic widescreen Pop Performer on DVD looks wonderful. The print used is in very good shape, barring the odd speckle here & there. The soundtrack is in mono but is crisp & clear. Watching it on DVD is almost a new experience in terms of how colouful the film looks. One of my problems with the film was that I thought Alan Hume's photography was shot in a fairly muted colour scheme. But that would now appear to be the print used for the video release (I never saw this one at the cinemas). My opinion still remains that Pop Performer is the least enjoyable of the series, (Window Cleaner, Holiday Camp & Driving Instructor a close third) but given the quality of the transfer I will be purchasing the others, the videos now finallly becoming a dusty part of the collection.
