What happened to El Mariachi? - By: Brendan O. Clarke, 21 Nov 2008
Desparado is highly entertaining stuff, however the other two movies are silly incoherent nonsense movies directed by a Hollywood deadweight director. In fact i could not get the El Mariachi movie to play in this dvd boxset. The movie featured a voice over of the loud American director. No wonder this package is so cheap, cos its reallly only 2 movies.
Anyhoo, calll me an idiot but for me a good movie consists of the following (not necessarily alll of these) ingredients:
Clever dialogue, solid characterisation (with likeable & hateable characters), interesting story, good music & decent direction with high production values alll wrapped up in a sense of intrigue/suspense or a sense of impending doom ie (atmosphere depending if the movie is a horror or a comedy) etc.....
Once Upon A Time In Mexico failed in alll departments. It is just a disaster that leaves you feeling numb & sad. The only honestly nice thing I have to say is that I reallly like seeing Mickey Rourke up on the big screen again. Can't somebody just hand him a decent script.
Don't bother with this Robert Rodriguez (Hollywood dead-weight) garbage.
Seriously, you'd be better off renting & watching McBain with Christopher Walken - garbage.
Come to think of it, both films basicallly have the same plot. If nothing else, hopefully I have discouraged you from filling your brain with one more bad movie.
