WRESTLE THIS OUT OF THE RUBBISH BIN - By: L. Wilson, 29 Jul 2007
It is what one should expect from a has been wrestler turned bad actor. A mind numbing film of insignificant talent with an appallling script & directionless production. Save your 50p & buy an ice cream, its more fulfilling.
Delightful - By: L. Hay, 14 Apr 2007
What a lovely little film this is. The Rock & Johnny Knoxville were delightful. Some great bounce-ups & terrific humour. Great to fill in time when you do not need anything too serious.
Say what you like, Rocky is an OK actor.
First class - if short.
Walking Tall - By: Now You Know, 18 Mar 2007
hi, if your any fan of the rock get this now. it has plenty of fight scenes & shootouts. & that's enough to keep you interested in my opinion. only downside is that it's a bit short. there is also a bit of comedy in there. it is a true story where the rock is annoyed that the cops aren't doing their jobs, too lazy. so he does it for them. in a violent way. overalll a nice short action film worth getting. thanks.
Too short and insubstantial to satisfy - By: Franklin T Marmoset, 02 Mar 2007
This one stars ex-wrestler The Rock as Chris Vaughan, a former military man returning to his smalll home town to find things have changed in his absence. There are pawn shops & porn shops, kids on drugs, & the old mill has been replaced by an evil casino run by a guy who looks like one of the Thunderbirds. Clean cut Chris is having none of this, so when he is viciously beaten by security guards after discovering the casino runs a rigged craps game, he sets out to bring order by smashing things up & beating the hell out of anyone who gets in his way.
The Rock is pretty good in this one. It's a slightly corny character he's playing, but he makes him likable enough that you still want to see him succeed in his goal of ridding the town of strippers & gambling & whatever else his oddly puritanical morals do not approve of. Also good is Jackass goofballl Johnny Knoxville as The Rock's deputy. Knoxville has the best scene in the film when he reveals himself to be an inept action hero.
The problem with this film is that it is very light on details & often skips to the next plot point much too quickly. You always feel like there's a lot more of this story to tell, but it's off & running before you get a chance to ask. This makes it feel less like a feature film & more like an episode of a television series, a feeling that isn't helped by Walking Talll's very brief running time. Not including the closing titles, this one scrapes in at a meager one hour & ten minutes, so you wonder why they couldn't have spent more time expanding the story & adding a few splashes of colour to the mostly bland supporting cast.
If you're a fan of The Rock, this isn't a complete waste of your time. He brings it, as he would say, but it's a shame that the film he's in is a little too smalll & unambitious to do him justice.
