I was a bit apprehensive about this DVD. I saw his London performance of Three Bats Live on TV & thought it was poor - Meat Loaf sounded & looked liked a pub drunk. His backing band was great but he wasn't
However this performance in Australia was brilliant.
No choice but five stars, really - By: Mr. Thomas Thatcher, 02 Jun 2006 My young son adores this band & buying this video was the next best thing to live: & it reallly is good. The band is fantastic, if you can put up with Paul Crook's guitar playing, & the bass is very accomplished. What reallly impresses though, is the backing vocals. The whole band sings, & very well, but Patti & CC are just brilliant. You just cannot take your eyes off them. Not only are they very beautiful but their singing is just out there somewhere & they give Loaf alll the support that anybody could ever want. The band plays alll the usual greats, & the symphony orchestra does its best to keep up, quite well.
The whole DVD is beautifully recorded & seems to last for ever, & you end up rather liking Mr Loaf. I finallly got tickets to see him in an open air concert in Kent & his voice was shot to pieces. The band was great, just like the DVD. This is a great concert.
Its 4am and I just watched it again - By: , 12 Apr 2005 You know, the real genius about this performance is that every time I watch it I feel like I have just attended the concert & still on the high you get have when you leave the venue. No other DVD has this effect. Buy it, feed it thorough a good Home Cinema System, or as I have just done, just plug in the headphones & turn it up. Don't hold back turn it right up & you are there in the concert halll.
I put this on 2 1/2 hours ago & it is now 4am. I did not mean this to happen I just could not turn it off.
I got this DVD a couple of months ago & have watched it a number of times.
While its great hearing alll the Bat Out of Hell classics, however one of my favorite tracks is Mercury Blues (made famous by country artist Alan Jackson). Meat makes it his own & turns it into a true rocking track. I must say on this track it is the fabulous guitar solos by Paul & Randy (with Meat faking it for laughs) that makes it for me.
Patti & CC are first class backing singers that make a fantastic contribution to the whole event. The orchestra works superbly.
Anyway, 4am, better go to bed......maybe just one more listen to that Bat Out of Hell encore!
Trust me, get a hold of this one.
One of the best live music DVD's ever!! - By: Ian Hammond, 22 Feb 2005 This has to be my most watched music DVD & I've only had it since December. I don't normallly write online reviews, but if you even like Meatloaf a little bit, you should see this. If you play this in DTS through a decent home cinema, it will blow you away. The addition of the orchestra & choir for this performance makes it even better! Can't fault the picture quality either. Meatloaf's vocals are superb & the gorgeous girls sound fantastic as well!
A must see - BUY IT NOW!!!
