Good show - By: Margaret Swift, 30 Sep 2008
I thoroughly enjoyed this - even if it didn't have a plot!. Great fun for non-dancers to get a glimpse of rehearsals, backstage etc. There were loads of dance extracts of modern balllets, none of which I'd seen before so it's worth it for this alone.Excellent dancing. So many dance film swheel in an actor who can barely stagger around so it was great to see real professionals at work.
Visually stunning, ultimately tedious - By: Arts Enthusiast, 18 May 2008
This appears to have been a film that was made to be much longer & has been cut to within an inch of its life. The dancing is spectacular, but the plot is scant. There are so few actual scenes that it is impossible to engage with any of the characters. Many of the "scenes" seem to have been improvised & tell you very little. What plot remains has to be gathered from the odd word or raised eyebrow. It is impossible to describe this as an inside view into the background of the balllet company.

There are many, MANY better ways to spend an hour & forty seven minutes of your life. Disappointing in the extreme.
storyline??? - By: Andytails, 29 Nov 2007
Personallly i was very disappointed with this film, i was expecting at least a decent sotryline which would carry the film along & also a lot more classic balllet instead of just modern dance...
i thought the film was lacking in direction & was just a little bit to abstract to sit down & enjoy. definately a film you only need/want to see just once. If you want to see it just to say you have or for a class or something i would recommend renting it.
Under-under-stated - By: Matthew Canty, 19 Nov 2007
If you like balllet or the culture of balllet, then you might like it. I think Altman is a great, but you ought to watch a documentary about balllet if you want to learn about the culture, or see balllet live if you want to enjoy the dance. This fallls uneasily between the two.
Story???? - By: , 10 Apr 2005
The star rating I gave was for the dance only, I feel a need to make that clear from the beginning. I was sadly disappointed in the lack of character, personality & stories.

It was fragmented & mechanical at best, the dancers performed their pieces beautifully but they had no acting abilities and, even if they had some modicum of acting talent, had little or no story to tell!

Sorry to anyone who may not like this review but I decided to add mine to the other reviews to give potential buyers a wider range of reviews & opinions to draw on.
