Talking Heads - By: Graham, 26 Apr 2008
Don't get this if you want to see or hear Bob Dylan.
The whole DVD is made up of people talking about him & his music, with some still photographs to break it up.
It maybe of use if you are studying his life during this period, otherwise go for 'No Direction Home'
Excellent Early Dylan retrospective - By: , 18 Aug 2005
I reallly liked this, although not too much Dylan footage there's some great interviews & also ha excellent contributions from the likes of Martin Carthy, Clinton Heylin, CP Lee, Mickey Jones but best of alll lots of Bob's old school friends some of whom played with him in his first band! Well worth a purchase if you're a true fan.
Disappointing! - By: , 11 Feb 2005
This DVD is a huge disappointment & has very little to offer the serious Dylan fan, & nothing to a casual admirer. To have any so-callled documentary without a hint of a Dylan soundtrack is ridiculous. All you see of Dylan are some still photographs & the accounts of those interviewed offer very little in the way of information not already known to any Dylan fan. Although there are one or two quality interviews (Martin Carthy for one), it is largely uninspiring. If you are excited by images of Hibbing then this may be the DVD for you, but if you want to discover anything about the man himself, I suggest you stick to the CD's, or if it's images you want, try the excellent "Don't Look Back". Don't waste your money on this DVD.
very informative film - By: , 02 Jan 2005
this is a fabulous dylan documentary which reallly gets to the bottom of his early life in hibbing & his early days in new york.Admittedly it has no music of bobs as it's unauthorised, but this is more than made up for by the quality of the contributors [everyone from his high school teacher in english who was very fond of bob & is only one of a handfull of people who witnessed dylan's first ever gig - aged 15 years old, a somewhat late in the day review of this early exposure follows by the rather elderly gentleman. Also featured are woody guthrie's manager, martin carthy, spider jon from nyc & other hip cats from thaT ERA high school mates - who've never spoken about bob before, the mighty clinton heylin, author cp lee, isis editor derek barker, mickey jones - the list is endless - if youre a fan you reallly need this dvd.
Superb bootleg discography as an extra also.
