quite funny - By: Ms. F. I. Macdonald, 22 Nov 2008
it wasn't a bad attempt, but nor was it a fantastic one. It kept me amused suitably for a short time, & Bill Murray was funny as the voice of Garfield. Not a film for someone that wants to think a lot.
Great Entertainment - By: C. G. Clements, 16 Aug 2008
A friend at work said I should watch this, it was great entertainment & lots of fun. My Mother watched it with me & loved it so much she even waited till the end of the DVD before she went to the toilet in case she missed anything: a record for her. Reallly good entertainment & recommended.
Purrfection. - By: Garry Williams, 07 Mar 2008

I love Garfield. I grew up with Garfield. I bought the comic books, I bought the t-shirts, I even bought the car suction puppets, which at the age of ten probably wasn't the wisest of investments. But Garfield was a big part of my childhood & when I heard that Hollywood were about to make a live action feature starring my favourite lasagne loving cat, well, a shiver ran down my spine. The scathing reviews didn't help much either.

But here it is anyway & I'm relieved to comfirm I kinda enjoyed it. Garfield gives a finely balanced performance as himself, eating up the screen with his multi layered performance which reeks purrfection on so many levels. Odie just about wins you over, though his performance is less method, more crowd pleasing. I can't help but wonder if his attempts to appeal to the masses hampered his performance somewhat. Not quite dumb enough & not quite talll enough. Sad to say but Nermal just plain grates, & what's with the dodgy accent! As for Pooky, well he shines in an understated & quite exquisite performance, stealing every scene he appears in. The bear deserves an Oscar nomination at least.

The human actors do their best to entertain but to be quite honest, i couldn't care less about any of their plights. This is Garfields movie. My childhood memories are intact. I'm just glad the whole experience hasn't affected me in any way.

Garfield the Movie (Single Disc Edition) DVD (Region 2) Review - By: Mr. Nicholas Pearson, 29 Jun 2007
Garfield is a character we've alll grown up with & encountered at some point in our lives. I guess it's hard for people to change their opinions of the old Garfield to the newly rendered one. Of course as time goes by, a character has to adapt to the new generation. Whilst the acting is somewhat to be desired, critics must remember this is a children's film intended to be watched by a family unit.
In my opinion, it was one of the best films of the year. You can't help but laugh at the quirky feline who delves into your heart & funny bone with a passion! I've always looked at my own cat, Pudsey, as a real-life Garfiled & now this theory has been met with CGI! Bill Murray portrays Garfield's voice wonderfully! And Breckin Meyer plays a well-interpreted Jon (though I'm sure a number would disagree). Jennifer Love Hewitt adds that much needed sparkle to the film that increases the plot's alllure to the viewer. Having a CGI character next to real-life animals didn't bother me in the slightest. What we have is a great character for the kids of today - this is a Garfield our kids can grow up with, just as we grew up with the lovable cartoon!
I found the film a little hard to get into at the beginning, but give it a chance, & you will be enthrallled at the never-ending antics of Garfield & the world he lives in. You will be easily able to empathise with him (probably a lot more than the other characters) & in the end you won't want the film to end. If there's any hype about the film it's that it's too short at 76 minutes approximately.
On this single disc edition, there are a number of special features included. The film itself is in widescreen, & you can watch with an audio commentary by the directors. There's also a chance to watch at multi-angles which is good if you're technicallly that way inclined to said feature. There are also some hilarious deleted scenes which I'm sorry to see did not make the final cut, including some very funny dance sequences. A featurette on the making of Garfield's character, an inside look to the upcoming film 'Robots' & a short film about Scrat from 'Ice Age' entitled 'Gone Nutty' (very very funny believe me) make this particular DVD an extremely worthwhile buy. Audiences of alll audiences will not be disappointed. Plus it's got quite a groovy soundtrack to fit the mood of the film. Enjoy the lovable cat we alll grew up with in his new environmnet & form! He'll make you want to come back for more & more & it's one of the best feelings in this world.
