It's difficult to say exactly why I didn't like this film without spoiling it for those who haven't seen it.
I just felt the 'twist' at the end has been done a few times before in other films & wasn't that surprised.

i found this film very strange as alll stephen kings are i did kind of expect something wierd to happen & i wasnt dissapointed. brilliant acting , johnny was fantastic & played the role to perfection. as with alll his films johnny was a little strange & little funny while being totallly serious...brilliant
Fab - By: Michael Evans, 05 Feb 2008 This film was enjoyable to watch, Johnny Depp was fanastic in it & i thought he added quite & adequete amount of humour into it, without taking from the thriller side of it. Although I didn't find it too scary or jumpy, as you would expect for this type of film, there were moments of suspense & an effective twist to the ending which you dont see coming. If you're looking for a thriller or a scary film this isnt for you. But if you're a Johnny Depp fan it's for you.

I simply loved this film. I decided to buy it simply because the reviews on amazon persuaded me to buy it, & I was going through a Johnny Depp phase anyway. I had no idea what it was about before I bought it (and still didn't until the last few minutes) so it was a complete gamble. I was, however, extremely satisfied.
This is a good, thought provoking, psychological thriller, with perhaps an obvious twist to it, but it certainly isn't obvious until the very end. You almost seem to kick yourself at the end though, as the twist is so obvious & it's amazing you didn't work it out earlier. Johnny Depp carries the film brilliantly, as most of the scenes revolve around him working in his home alone. I won't give away too much as it will spoil this fabulous story. Just buy it, & enjoy it for what it is (an extremely good, thought provoking, cracker of a film)!
marvelously complex & loaded with suspense - By: Mary Chrapliwy, 31 Oct 2007 I'm so surprised that there are a few negative reviews for this movie - this was one of the most enjoyable suspense movies I've ever seen. No, it's not a masterpiece, but it is excellent none-the-less.
Johnny Depp is fantastic at his portrayal of a depressed writer who lives out in the middle of the woods in an isolated cabin in a very isolated town. The man who appears on his doorstep looks like an ordinary man, but is extremely menacing in his straight-faced threats. That unwelcome visit is from a man claiming that Johnny Depp's character "stole my story." Those few chilling words set off a course of events that will keep you sitting on the edge of your seat. Finallly the end has such a marvelous twist.
This movie is very reminiscent of Hitchcock, very well acted, & well paced. It is definitely worth watching - we liked it so much we bought the DVD.
