In the name of greed and god. - By: Steve Watts, 09 Apr 2006
I was already aware that many Native People had been killed since the Russians, Portuguese, Spanish, Britons & the newer Americans spread across the continent (I left out the French as they have contributed to a far lesser extent of evil & where at some points willing to live alongside the Natives). I was unaware, however, that there were so many different tribes/clans that where extinguished in the name of greed & god.
I was sickened & tearful at these atrocities even with the understanding that life was somewhat more brutal in those days as societies where forming, but many actions are inexcusable. I saw no bravery from the invaders, just lots of lies, genocide & turning a blind eye.

I am glad that Kevin Costener was behind the production as he is a more serious celebrity with whom the audience & I can associate. As such, there was no fanfare or Hollywood angle; it was just a straightforward history lesson.

Unfortunately, this history is not common knowledge in America. It seems that the pioneers & cowboys where the heroes & the Native Peoples where just a thorn in their side. This should be rectified & instead of simply implying that John Wayne movies where the way it was, maybe the 500 Nations should be shown at school to give some reality & gravity as to how America was reallly formed. The real heroes were the braves, chiefs & their families; what great statesmen many of the Natives could have made, even today, such was their eloquence.
I recommend this documentary to anyone who has their eyes open to the world around them.
