Much Better Than I Expected - By: Annevejb, 26 Feb 2007
Much better than expected. Liesel has a good role & the story is told with panache.

In part, Blast might have been influenced by early Buffy, to the extent of it including a theme about romance, that aspect having epic proportions & complexity & style. Best not to know the plot the first time around. Buffy can be that way too? It differs from Buffy in not being fantasy or comedy. I hunger for a happier ending, middle too, but still find a lot to like, very Buffy.

I prefer this to Air Force One, partly due to Liesel's role & partly due to how I experienced Kazakstan when I was a fan looking for information about the Eurovision Song Contest. Not much can compare with A Little Princess.

I find the only drawback is that this is 4x3 screen format, NTSC region 1, whereas the titles show that the original is widescreen. 2.35 format. This is the Platinum Disc LLC label, ref 19079, 17th August 2004. At the time I bought it there is also another version available, Velocity Home Entertainment label, 16th Sept 2003, but that is also 4x3, NTSC region 1. I do not know what the difference between these DVD versions is. I would expect them to appear to be identical for practical purposes on my simple stereo system.

I need to be looking out for a widescreen PAL version on DVD, but that does not seem likely to become available. A 4x3 version is a lot better than nothing. A nice purchase from Amazon marketplace. Mine was also much lower cost than usual, this particular DVD, airmail from Florida in February 2007, cost me about as much as many locallly bought, England, second hand disks.
