Brilliant Film, But only 1 star for the poor quality transfer. - By: David M. Grant, 01 Aug 2008
Screen goddess Sophia Loren won a very well deserved Oscar for her strong & vivid portrayal of a war ravaged widow in the director Vittorio De Sica's neo -realist classic. two women chronicles the dreadful harrowing ordeal of the beautiful widow Cesira (Sofia Loren) & her shy & sickly daughter rosetta (eleonora Brown) as they escape the daily air raids in Rome by fleeing into the countryside.
The pair make there exhausting journey through & over corpses strewn mountains & burnt out vallleys only to be brutallly raped by the soldiers when they seek shelter in an abandoned church. alll very very sad...seemes not to much has changed in the past 60 years.
Survival & shere perseverance in face of adversity. Two women is a very frank film with the universal message that our shared humanity transends alll ethnic or political differences.
Sophia Loren can fit into comedy as well as serious in a blink of an eye. you just dont come across women like this in the main... charismatic, suffisticated, charming, & what a figure. produced by her husband Carlo Ponti....lucky man.
I warn you in advance this copy by Alpha video is a dreadful transfer one of the worst i have ever seen images are fuzzy low contrast poor colour about as useful as a chocolate fireguard.Alpha wake up & smell the popcorn
But its worth watching it just to get an idea what its alll about, then give it away....perhaps one day a major company with money will make a quality transfer.
