Hilarious - By: Mephistophelean, 06 Feb 2007
This box set gives you alll three series of the Goodness Gracious Me TV series.

For second generation asians, this was the series that finallly gave life to alll of the things we wanted to say about our culture but were afraid to.

It also alllowed us to - finallly - poke fun back at the staid culture we were living in that couldn't seem to understand why their version of assimilation wasn't right. The two sketches that stand out in this regard are the:

- restaurant scene where the family want the "blandest meal on the menu" & always mispronounce "James"; and
- the sketch in the office where the English person is told that he's not fitting in as he has an English name.

As with most things, the first series is the strongest with the jokes becoming slighly stretched by the third series.

However, other than Blackadder, this is the only series that has got both me (asian brought up in the UK), my wife (asian brought up in New Zealand) & my mother (first generation asian) to laugh out loud while watching TV.

If you want an insight into asian views of their own & British culture through comedy - buy this.

More importantly, if you just want to laugh - buy it.

A taste of India - By: P. DATTA, 04 Aug 2006
The Ultimate Goodness Me offers alll three seasons of wonderful & entertaining comedy. What Goodness Gracious Me shows are typical sterotype attitudes you may associate closely with Indian culture. The episodes are protrayed as being very funny & clevely delivered. There are numerous sketches in alll the three seasons like the father who says everything is India & womaniser Asian man who compliments alll the time & says cheque please. Those are my favourite scenes.

If you love comedy, watch Goodness Gracious Me, it is comedy of the highest quality seen from a totallly Indian perspective. As a second generation Asian, I understand great deal about the Asian culture & this something which appeals to me. You do not necessarily need to acquire a knowledge of Indian culture to watch this DVD. You just have to appreciate shuttle humour & observe the funny side of what it feels like being an Indian. If you get what I mean.

Just watch Goodness Gracious me & observe your yourself. This DVD set is great value for money & great entertainment.
It's Indian! - By: M. J. Lowe, 19 Jul 2005
I'd forgotten how long ago these had been made. They seem like only yesterday. Just finished watching the whole lot & have had to stitch my sides back up, especiallly at the final disk where "Coopers" & the "Robinsons" accidentallly visit India.....:)
Finally, a box set - By: , 07 Dec 2004
Not so much a review, but a hint for prospective buyers:

This box includes the _complete_ (and _not_ only the highlights, as it says on this site) Series 1--3 -- so no need to buy the separate discs as well.

Also included is the fantastic "Back to Where They Came From" documentary, which would be worth buying it alone.
