Not recommended! - By: Loopy, 22 Mar 2008
I do not recommend this movie. Her acting is awful. She's annoying, like few other actors I've ever seen. Is someone's desire before dying to annoy others?? The story. She's dying & the only people around her are her dad & her ex-boyfriend who has this jolly face throughout. The movie is slow. The trailer is highly misleading.
Daft and disappointing - By: John Williams, 05 Dec 2007
This film was recommended to me, the reviews were generallly good, & I'd been quite impressed by Gerrard Butler in some of his other films, so I thought it would be worth a look. Here are some reasons why I thought it so disappointing:

It was not believable. Very little of it seemed to be grounded in any kind of reality, but the most unbelievable aspect of it was that we were asked to believe that the heroine was dying. She looked glowingly well to me.

The two main characters were not at alll sympathetic. I had more sympathy with the poor wife, who gets short shrift in the film, & whose ultimate fate goes unrecorded. We are alll going to die. Knowing that one is going to die sooner rather than later is no excuse for behaving so badly. As for the heroine's father, his final scene is rather contrived, cheesy & improbable.

There wasn't much of a plot, & too many loose ends were left untied.

What was particularly disappointing was that it had the germ of a good story, & could have been so much better.

Having said that, some of the acting & photography & location shots were good, so two stars (for effort as my gym teacher used to say).
Better than I expected - By: IrishGal, 27 Nov 2007
I essentiallly picked this up because I'm a Gerry Butler fan & wanted to see some of his earlier work. The real star of this film is Valerie Edmond, & I thought she did a brilliant job. I was pleased to see that Gerry himself could show some raw emotion & not just run around brandishing weapons. The other Valerie who plays the wife certainly gets the short end of the stick in this story, & I could reallly sympathize with her. Anyway, it's never easy to deal with death, & I think this film has done a pretty good job of tackling a subject that is taboo for most people. There's a decent enough story, a few laughs, lots of tears, some great shots of Scotland, & overalll good-quality acting from everyone.
Life is too short! - By: , 05 Apr 2006
I chose to rent this film based on others reviews and, after watching it, I now feel duty bound to write my first review to save others from a similar fate. I will not stretch this out with every word in the thesauras in order to prove my intellectual worth but believe me when I tell you that it is absolutely dreadful! The 2 main characters acting is wooden & cringingly unrealistic yet the minor characters are far more believable. A story that had potential but was completely miscast & doomed from the outset. Life reallly is too short to spend 2 hours on this drivel.
where is the kiss? - By: cat lee, 16 Mar 2006
this is a very nice film, 'nice' in that it is weel directed & gives you a slightly cosy feel. unfortunatley the film, in my opinion seems to build up a lot of emotion, but at the end it kind of deflates. its as if you reallly know what is going to happen, but then it does, exaclty how you had imagined, leaving no room for surprises or twists. this is why i class this film as 'nice', as it doesnt confuse you, its very straight-forward. but perhaps this is its downfalll. any gerard butler fan will like this as he plays a very loveable character torn between old & new loves. the setting & directing are wonderful. overalll i think this film is a good tearjerker, but a bit too obvious.
