beautiful, sensuous, could have gone deeper - By: , 14 Sep 2005
yes, this film is poetic, erotic & suspenseful. it is largely a very sensuous film, though i thought the sex scenes were actuallly the least erotic parts. each time was a very well shot & effective build-up, only to be ruined by extremely uniform, unimaginative, rushed bonking that will leave female viewers feeling cheated- & which detracts from the credibility of the film's claim to chart a true erotic journey.

i also got the sense (although i haven't read the book) that a lot was missed out or skimmed over; the film seemed to rush through alll the various encounters & i was left feeling that the 'delta of venus' hadn't reallly been found, despite what the narrator claims. it was a good, enjoyable film, but i felt it could have gone deeper. and, please, some foreplay next time!

pornographic and romantic - By: , 12 Jun 2003
To hide the raunch of Delta of Venus in a pretty package, there's lots of telephoto, foggy-lens photography.

The cast is attractive & capable. Audie England, who stars as Elena, a character based somewhat on Nin, looks like a young Michael York with long hair & a plump lower lip.

In the story, Elena is an American living in Paris with lots of artists in 1939. Out of work, she begins writing erotica for a mysterious benefactor who pays by the page. Too make her writing more realistic, she tries different sexual relations, which get increasingly, well, nontraditional.
